Miller Brew

When healthy, who's gone?

First off, Holland is an amazing GM. His brilliance to find players such as Eaves, Miller and Newbury. I am so happy with Eaves and Miller. I think if nothing else, Wings/Holland may have just re-sparked their respective careers. Hopefully they can stay in Detroit.

That said, when players start to come back we're going to (eventually) need to move some guys. Who do we move?

Role players coming back:

Franzen

Williams

Filppula

Cleary

This is a great problem to have but I really want to see Miller and Eaves here for awhile. Players like May and Newbury can go as I feel solid PKer's and defensive minded players who can put the puck in net should stay. That'd help relieve a lot of pressure off Pasha and Hank on the PK. And Eaves has really found his groove here. Miller has been absolutely solid without even a hiccup.

Then again, Eaves and Miller might have (mid to late round) trade value. What are your thoughts?

I've been wondering this myself. Who can be sent down? How many extra players can a team carry?

Abdelkader will (unfortunately) have to go down, because we'll need the space and I think he's one of the few that can be sent down.

As for Miller, Eaves, May, Maltby? It'll suck but one of Miller or Eaves will probably have to sit as an extra skater. Don't know what to do with May, he's been good for us and I'd hate to send him packing, but he can't be sent down, can he?

Me hopes Leino and Willy become healthy scratchy.

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom

Cleary-Filppula-Franzen

Draper-Helm-Eaves

Bertuzzi-Abdelkader-Miller

Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Cleary

Helm-Filppula-Eaves

Draper-Abdelkader-Miller

With a depth hierarchy of May/Maltby for the bottom six & Williams/Leino for the top six.

Somehow they would have to shed that much. Preferably by keeping Eaves and Miller in the lineup. They'll probably send Abdelkader down I suppose.

Why would Willy become a healthy scratch? He is better then Abdelkader and Miller, and played pretty good for the team before he got hurt. If we are going to make lines:

Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Bertuzzi-Zetterberg-Cleary

Eaves-Filpula-Williams (Leino)

Draper-Helm-Miller

I don't think the league is going to give us an exception and allow us to keep an active roster of 25...

That is if Leino gets it going, which I believe he does. Abdelkader will get a lot of ice time in GR.

As for the trade(s) I'm hoping we've seen the last of a guy who's name rhymes with Pebda. :P

He could be replaced on defense by one of the extra forwards. Doesn't even matter who, he can't do any worse.

Wow does Lebda take some hate on here. Yeah, he's not an all-star, but I think people on here just work each other up with the bashing, making the issue way over-blown.

He's not that bad.

He's not that bad.

He's the 18th best skater on the Wings each game he plays. That right thurr puts him behind the eight ball.

He'd be the #3 d-men on Carolina, if that makes you feel better.

I agree.

I didn't intend to make a thread to become a RW player bashing thread. I was hoping this thread would give good insight and logical thoughts about what's going to happen as healthy players return (and even next year's potential roster). I'm disappointed that this turned into, yet, another RW bashing thread. It's getting so old reading RW bashing posts on a Wings fan forum.

/sigh

Dats Zetterberg Homer

Franzen Filpulla Cleary

Bertuzzi Williams Leino

Draper Helm Eaves

I suspect this will most likely be the roster that Babs rolls with, with different line combinations. I have no idea who would play 13th forward out of Maltby May and Miller. I'm guessing Miller, because the other two don't bring as much skill to the table.

Even with Abdelkader back in Grand Rapids, somebody's going to go to waivers if the team is ever fully healthy. 23 is still the limit, as a few have pointed out. My money is on them not waiving Maltby, and Miller's played too well to go back on the wire. My bet is May, if we're holding seven defensemen.

I know, I wasn't being that serious. :) It's just that I'd rather give his minutes to someone who has more upside. He's fine as a 6th defenseman but he obviously isn't getting any better.

Question is.. would Leino accept being sent down to GR? I'm pretty sure he will head back home to finland if that were to happen.. in the end of his GR time he was deadly fed up with it and he probably think he shouldn't be playing another AHL game
