Rivalred 630 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 I hope we do not play in it as the teams who do play in the Winter Classic the last 2 yrs ended up losing in the SCF.
Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted December 17, 2009 a double header sort of deal would be cool im sure people will find some reason to complain about this and/or bettman
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Eh... I knew the Winter Classic wouldn't be special forever, but this is a pretty quick way to make it less appealing. The phrase 'too much a good thing' comes to mind. The year after it will be 4 games, so on and so forth, soon theyre gonna be playing roller hockey in downtown LA. I'm just glad the Wings got involved in the coolest year, by far. Two original 6 teams at one of the most historic outdoor venues in the country. It will never be as cool as that. This year's Winter Classic is far less exciting than last year, not just because the Wings aren't in it... but the whole ball park thing has already been done, the rivalry isn't as intense, the teams aren't as good, etc. I can't help but think the Winter Classic will run its course. Broken 16 381 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 I like the idea of having one in Canada. Canadians deserve a winter classic too. Two a year is good, as long as they don't start going overboard.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 They're going to dilute it until it's no longer a cool, rare event.
RedArmy 4 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 For me personally if its not wings I still watch the winter classic because it is such a cool event, but I feel like if you split the special thing between 2 teams it might take away a bit from how special it is... I am not to say Bettman sucks because I am sure they all sat in a room "brainstorming" about this brilliant idea lol... Canadian team versus American team and any original 6 teams it would be really cool....
Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted December 17, 2009 (edited) Canada doesn't have any outdoor stadiums. One is enough. Yeah, I guess the Skydome burnt down or something. Edited December 17, 2009 by ZetterbergFourty

Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Canada doesn't have any outdoor stadiums. One is enough. Oh s***, there's that one out in Edmonton too where they already had the Heritage Classic.
Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 I don't like the idea of having 2. It's making it less rare and special. Why do we need a separate one for the USA and Canada? We are one league so let's share. How fun would it be too to have a US vs. Canada winter classic one year?
Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Canada doesn't have any outdoor stadiums. One is enough. Two other stadiums with a 50,000+ capacity. They're not as big as most of the stadiums in the States, but they'd work for an outdoor game. 1. Olympic Stadium, Montreal Cap. 66,308 2. Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton Cap. 60,081 3. BC Place Stadium, Vancouver Cap. 59,841 4. Skydome, Toronto Cap. 53,506 5. McMahon Stadium, Calgary Cap. 35,560 So there are some options for a Canadian Winter Classic. I heard that it cannot be used, because the roof will not move in cold temperatures. It would get stuck.
Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Yeah, I guess the Skydome burnt down or something. Nope... just renamed. It's also only designed to be open for nice weather, and the building is not likely designed to be open at those temps.

Agreed. No need for two games. One a year makes it special. Also agree that Detroit-Chicago at Wrigley won't be matched.

I heard that it cannot be used, because the roof will not move in cold temperatures. It would get stuck. This had crossed my mind, I figure if they really wanted to hold a game there they would find a way to do it. I'm not sure at what temp it starts seizing and s***, but Jan. 1 could very well be a + temps day with the screwed up weather we've been getting up here. I'd like to see it happen one day, but maybe it will remain impossible. With the technology these days I bet they could figure it out.
hak 21 Report post Posted December 17, 2009 I don't get it why people are complaining about this? 1 game in CAN and 1 game in the USA seems very reasonable imo. As long as it is only 2 games the rareness and the special feel from it won't disappear.. at least not according to me. If it were 3, 4 or 5 games , then it would be too much. 2 is perfect! I love the winter classic so to get one more is great.
