Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) Newbury down, Ritola up. Kenny Holland says, "Newbury gave us a good little push there, but you know, we are going to try something else -- shake it up a little." And there was much rejoicing. Riiiiiiitola Edit: Hmm ... that's supposed to say "Never Fear, Ritola's Here" .... stupid Mondays. Edited December 21, 2009 by Octopus's Garden
Finnish Wing 110 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 Link MLive reports that Filppula might be ready to return. Newbury doesnt deserve to be sent down. Number 21 does. You understand?
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 You understand? I do yes. Leino sucks. Newbury has been a far greater asset than he has whilst hes been here. Turns out Ritola is getting called up anyway.

xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 He hasrdly produces any points, He's soft, He will play timid just like the last game he played for the wings. For god sakes I would have rather had Jeremy Williams.

Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 I would expect that Leino waivers. Despite how the all-mighty LGWers feel about him, he isn't worth losing over Newbury.
Carman 387 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 As disappointing as Leino has been it's still very early in his career. That said, NEWBURY NOOOOOOOOOOOO ack, at least it was a treat to have him up here for a little bit.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 If I recall, Filp and Leino had some good chemistry when they were together. The kid has talent, he just needs to get stronger on the puck and not be afraid to get some dirt on his face. So will Filpulla be back for Wednesday's game, then? robb himself 143 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 yeah I really liked what I saw from Newbury, but if it means Filppula is coming back... so be it.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 Should have been Jamie Tardif.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 I haven't been to a Griffins game in a couple years so forgive my ignorance, but Newbury was outperforming Ritola in the minors in every category; more points in less games played, more penalty minutes, better +/-. Besides, Newbury wasn't doing all that poorly in the NHL(1 goal, 4 pm, +1) Why would Ritola be replacing Newbury?
Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 should have been TATER TOTS first
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 Need more Helms. No, not until Helm starts scoring goals, anyway. Leino has the potential to be a goal scorer as he showed last year, so that's why the Wings keep giving him a chance in the hopes that he rediscovers his confidence. thedatsyukian 7 Report post Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) Eh. Ritola is having yet another mediocre season so perhaps this is to assess where he's at in his progression? Otherwise you would think there are better options to call up. Edited December 21, 2009 by thedatsyukian

Guest mindfly Report post Posted December 21, 2009 (edited) Would have prefered Leino to be sent down, it can be good to have a pissed off player on the ice, newbury that is.. Haven't seen Ritola play much only a few games with detroit a couple of season ago... From what I've read and been told he's a team guy, great work ethic and solid attitude, quite the opposite of Ryno and Axelsson, so i think he deserves a chance just because of that.
