MissyLKS8 6 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm in this heated debate... what is everyone's opinion on Flips day back? Not the team or anyone else, just Val's performance. Good, bad? Explain. Edited December 27, 2009 by MissyLKS8

SDavis35 140 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 He had a mix of good and bad shifts, he didn't stand out much. He could do better I'm sure, but he was good enough for me.
MissyLKS8 6 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 Well, it wasn't the best game for the Wings at all. Considering Val missed 26 games he wasn't bad at all and showed no signs of being out for so long. It also wasn't the best game at all for him but I felt confident in his playing tonight.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 About what was to be expected I think. He had a few really good opportunities that he didn't capitalize on, and also made some bad turnovers. I'd say about average.
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 Considering he was playing NHL hockey after not playing for two months, I think he was great.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 He played well. Took some hits but was a little timid to shoot the puck as he usually is. Still he can't wake the dead like some have predicted. Leino was his usual zombie self, even with his Finnish linemate beside him.
Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 He played more minutes and had more of a team impact than Ritola or Newbury could ever do on their best day. Fil will be 10x better next game and he'll keep building. We should get Cleary back January 2nd and Zetterberg should be practicing with the team in 2 or 3 days. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 It's obvious that he's missed 2 months, but I think he looked really good. Once he's got better wingers than Leino and Eaves, his line will rock.
JoeBuddy 10 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 For missing as many games as he did, I felt that he did a fine job. I didn't really expect him to go out and make any huge plays or score a goal. He'll improve and gain better timing as he plays more games.

Can you provide evidence that people that that Flip's return was supposed to "wake the dead" as opposed to "show that the injured will return and things should get better"? He played fine. Had lots of rust, and lots of drive.

The Mule 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 Flip came back, and we won. With any luck, this trend will continue.
under_par_00 45 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 Flip will only get better. In 10 games, he will be even better, and will be a great boost to our 2nd line. Go Flipper!
Motown4013 350 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 I thought he did a bit better than I anticipated we would. After missing 26 games, I agree- his timimg was WAY off, and he didnt capitailize on a few opportunities he had but.... I thought he shone on the second line, playing with Ville (who was a pylon) and Eaves. He was more physical than I thought he might be and he definately looked ready to go. I am glad he's back! He will be awesome with a few games under his belt
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 I don't expect him to immediately pick up where he left off, but he'll build back up to it and provide a big morale boost to the team.

digitaljohn88 4 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Even though he didn't get a point last night, you could tell that it was possible that he could have set something up. Nice to see one less 3/4 grinder on the roster. Edited December 27, 2009 by digitaljohn88
Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted December 27, 2009 I shouldn't have to find the evidence to back up *your* allegations. It was me, I wrote something similar to what he is claiming. I wrote in some other thread that before Wings started getting knocked out with injuries Babcock had stated our best line was the Leino-Filppula-Williams line. And I agreed with Babcock at the time... that was our best line back in early November. Since our injuries Leino has become a pylon. I don't personally believe Leino is a pylon, I think he's a rookie thrown into situations that he's just not ready for. He should be on a 3rd line with a couple of quality players. Babcock said it best during the post game last night, players play better when they play in their role. Unfortunately a lot of players where not playing in their roles for the past couple of months. Take Abdelkader for example, wasn't he a -6 his past two games against Chicago? He's not a 2nd line center, but he was thrown in a spot he's just not ready for. A lot of players are going through this right now. I do believe that once this team is healthy, Leino will start to play better because he'll put back down on the 3rd line with Flip and Willie, who he seems to have chemistry with. There will be a whole lotta of pressure lifted off him.
