Theophany 110 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 My thoughts exactly! I saw someone with a Zetterberg Swedish jersey at the Joe last night and now I really want one! I think I'll go with the blue one though, as I've already got the bright yellow U of M hockey jersey, we'll see though! It's tough finding the blue ones. ICE Jerseys have been out since pretty much the day they got them in. I was really just waiting to see if Nick got the C.
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 Sammy's apparently pretty pissed that he didn't get selected. Aside from Johan Franzen, who is currently nursing a knee injury, one of the other notable absentees from the list is Vancouver's Mikael Samuelsson. "Probably going to get in trouble for this, but they can go f*** themselves," was his reaction following the Canucks win over Calgary Sunday night.
Guest zackmorris Report post Posted December 28, 2009 If Freddy Modin was chosen over me, I'd be a little pissed too. I don't care how badly he got ragged on here or hwo "disappointing" he's been for Vancouver, he should be going. Fredrik Modin? Are you kidding!? I can understand Franzen, as they won't bring a guy they know will be hurt....but c'mon. I don't care if he's a big body, we cream ourselves over big players way too much. Sammy was the obvious better choice.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 For those surprised to see Liv on the roster, don't be. He's a damn good goalie and would make a good backup in the NHL if he were still on this side of the pond. Three of Liv's last four seasons in Elitserien he has taken HV71 to the finals, winning in 2004 and 2008). In 2004 he did not allow a single goal in the finals. In World Championship play he has allowed 10 goals in 7 games, posting two shutouts. He was on the 2006 Swedish Olympic team as the second goalie, with a 2.00 GAA. Liv has been one of it not the top goalie in Elitserien for several years, and has played for Sweden every year in the WCs or the Olympics since he was 22, save for the 2002 Olympics, and the 2003 and 2007 World Championships. Sweden wanted him to start for the 2007 team, but he was unavailable as he was with the Griffins at the time. For Sweden to not name Liv would be unusual, given his performance in Elitserien and the lack of Swedish goaltenders with comparable skill in the NHL or elsewhere. I would honestly not be stunned to see Liv pursued by an NHL team during the summer, as he was a top prospect with the Wings and has shown quite a bit of skill in Sweden and internationally. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 .....umm... I know Alfie has only scored 9 goals this year, but he's still a really good sniper. Eriksson can also score goals if he has someone to set him up.

In reality we'll probably have 3 lines that play just as much, not a true 1st, 2nd and 3rd line. Btw, am I the only one completely opposed to Forsberg and Backstrom playing together? Sure, Backstrom is scoring more goals this year, but that's still two guys that want to pass, pass, pass all the time. And I especially don't see Hornqvist being a good enough sniper to take advantage of all the opportunities those two would give him.

Yeah they could work, but I don't like the idea of having our two best playmakers with a guy that isn't exactly a proven goalscorer. Hank+Alfie would be a really good defensively responsible yet offensively dangerous duo though. It's sure fun to think about all the different ways to combine these players. PP-formation: Forsberg-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Lidstrom-Kronwall umm, yes please.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 Seeing how Lidstroms season has gone so far with shots never going through and no offense at all I would rather go with Kronwall+Enstrom. I'm a huge fan of Enstrom so I don't think that's a crazy thing to say, but Lidstrom WILL be on that no.1 PP unit. That's as certain as it is that Lundqvist will be our starting goaltender. Guest zackmorris Report post Posted December 29, 2009 ^Mindfly's just overreacting. This is a fan msg forum, it's commonplace. Lidstrom will be the #1 dman, and the PP quarterback, easily.
hak 21 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 lidstrom is the captain..... as predicted (by most at least) pretty good team. i hope BÃ…G dont totally screw up the lines. most surprised modin made the team but it's not a huge deal imo alfredsson is out a couple of weeks, that SUCKS! he really needs to be at the top of his game for sweden to compete with the likes of russia and canada this team is a bit worse than i predicted and my hopes to beat canada and russia is not very high but i still believe they can make it. in lundqvist we trust! I mean, they're not really going to put him on the bottom six are they? Also, where do they rank with their dmen? I was thinking the other day that they at least rank 2nd on paper. Rivalred 630 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Modin? I agree, WTF. I guess it's Gustafsson's idea for a replacement for Franzen, but come on. Too bad we couldn't bring Bergfors, he's awesome.. but even Samuelsson would be better imo. But obviously the team would look a million times better if we had the Mule instead of Modin. Believe it or not, Modin reminds me of Franzen in a lot of ways. ..Why Modin... why?!?! Because he has good hands and determination Very strange decisions. Modin over Samuelsson/Sjostrom? Forsberg but no Naslund? And what about Ericsson? Which Ericsson are you talking about? If it is the one on Dallas, then ok. People may be LOLing @ Modin, but the man still has a lot left. You are like Nostradamus or something man. Modin played well last night and had the only goal in a 1-0 OT win over the Red Wings What really is the justification for Freddy Slowdin? Forsberg? I guess if there isn't really much contact, he's fine. Bet they really wanted Mule. Freddy did not look slow last night alfredsson is out a couple of weeks, that SUCKS! Alfie is out 4-6 weeks After the last game, Modin is looking like a better call. You seen the light! Hallelujah brother!
