Guest micah Report post Posted January 6, 2010 They should put Brad May on the powerplay. He goes out there, beats their best player to a pulp, gets the instigator, we go to 4 on 4. More chance of Detroit scoring + they're down a player for the game due to the severe beating. Rinse and repeat. You're like some evil ******* genious! May would have to be careful though - he's gotta get the other guy to at least try to fight back so they get matching 5s. He would alsmost certainly get the 2,5,10 package, so he needs to make sure that the other guy gets 5 to put both teams at even strength. I trust May to be able to pull it off. Pucks 66 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) Kronwall was making everything happen on the PP before he got injured. Him and Z will definitely help. It was really brutal to watch last night. I was hiding my eyes, as they kept turning it over at the blue line for breakaways. Edited January 6, 2010 by Pucks
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 let's hope lidstrom retires so we can sign kovalchuck Well, Kovalchuk can actually hit the net from the point. He's like a better version of Sammy back there.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 I always get excited. Because the next one could be the one that starts a 40% clip through the rest of the season! Still waiting.
Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Well, Kovalchuk can actually hit the net from the point. He's like a better version of Sammy back there. Ken Kal was saying on the 97.1 the other night that he thinks he will resign in Atlanta but if he doesnt the wings will have some** money to at least offer him. Hes more deserving of a ridiculous contract than a lot of other guys right now(see blackhawks) and this may sound cheesy but having another Russian might help out Datsyuks off the ice problems.... Rivalred 630 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Well, out PP is total garbage; i.e. the short handed goal last night.

Broken 16 381 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Dats has been having off-ice problems? Something was written a while back about Datsyuk's marriage. Supposedly, his wife is very unhappy and lonely. The hope is that if the Wings get another Russian player, Dat's wife will have someone to gossip and go shopping with. Thus making her happy... which will in turn make Pavel happy... which will in turn transform Pavel into a perennial Hart finalist. Could work.

Datsyuk sucks right now because his wife has no one to go shopping with? Seriously, we need to bring back Maxim Kuznetsov or something.

The player is immaterial. We have to find ANY Russian player who's wife has chemistry with Pav's wife. The NHL is all about chemistry. You know that.
Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 yeah ive never seen any russian player let his personal life show on the ice. ahem federov. I'm half kidding. i want Kovulchuck because hes awesome.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Well, Hudler is sort of Russian now that he's spent a season in the KHL. There's also that Kovalchuk guy that people want to have instead of Lidstrom.

He's been playing like it a lot this season. I honestly don't know what his deal is. He had one shift last night where he looked like himself and the Wings scored, otherwise he looks completely uninterested offensively. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Yeah, Datsyuks been a disappointment this year. How long ago was the Tampa Bay game? It's taken him that long to overtake Zetterberg for the teams points lead.... thats not good As far as the PP, I hate seeing us go on the powerplay. We have the blandest, laziest PP I've ever seen, and the 2nd unit doesnt know what to do if they even manage to get in the zone. It's ugly, we have a better chance shorthanded or 5on5 to score then on the PP, which is sad.

Honestly though I'd be more worried if we were healthy and our PP still sucked this bad. Right now we've got guys like Abby, Meech, and Ritola getting a lot of time on the power play. Last night both Ritola and Abdelkader had more time on the power play than Datsyuk.

Pavel seemed happy enough last season and we didn't have more russians around then. I'm not sure why his wife shouldn't be able to "gossip and go shopping" with the wives of the other players. Russians can only hang out with other russians? I don't buy it. Not saying personal issues couldn't have anything to do with Pav's play this year, but I doubt it's as easy as getting another russian player+wife here and suddenly it will turn things around. Guest mindfly Report post Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) ALOT will be solved when kronwall and eventually franzen returns, these united should be able to score around every 4th pp opportunity. PP1 Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Lidstrom-Rafalski PP2 Franzen-Filppula-Cleary/Bertuzzi (The one who is hotter at the time) Kronwall-Stuart(F*ck williams and the "importance" of a right shooter - overrated) They can't fail with them... seeing abdelkader, ritola, eaves, meech etc on the powerplay makes my eyes bleed tbh. Think we could coaxe Shanahan out of retirement? He's kind of sexy, he might have a few points left in him and he has been rumoured to have good chemistry with other player's wives in the past. Guest lilja4mvp Report post Posted January 7, 2010 (edited) remember when you used to wait for the PP to be over before getting up and leaving the TV? now the start of our PP is the ideal time to go get your refill. you know not much is going to be happening.
