Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 It's not a big deal, Philly had the game in the bag with/without that goal. It's a very close call, and I don't think it's that devastating of a mistake even if it was a mistake in the first place. You're missing the point. Who cares about the game, it's the BIG picture that we're talking about here. It's becoming out of control how incompetent this league has become. This is the National Hockey League, not pond skating. This is suppose to be a professional sport yet their is no professionalism. I get infuriated when the league makes these kind of f*** ups, it should not happen with the technology we have. I'm still pissed off over May's no-goal, and now this. RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 The only reason this happens is fans allow it. Really, is anyone changing their hockey habits in the "Push the Penguins" Era? Nope? Didn't think so. And, Bettman is pulling in idiots who clap in their helmets and repeat "Sidney Crosby, Sidney Crosby" while knowing nothing about the game-- they are spending the same currency we are-- so things won't change. I imagine that there will be an artificial dynasty of some sort--or at least a decent extended run--in addition to some sort of new cap rule that allows the Penguins to keep players based on some bizarre criteria (players drafted in the top 10, when more than one per drafting team, only count 70% of their salary toward the cap?). Oh please, there are blown calls in every major sport. Look at the Yankee's during the baseball playoffs, look at the college National championship game, look at practically any NFL game. Replay is still getting the kinks worked out, it's impossible to never mess up. Get over it, lifes not fair and it's not perfect.

If the god damn idiots in Toronto could not see that this and Mays goals were legit than they need to be fired on the spot. It couldn't get any more obvious. It's frustrating for sure, and as fans we should expect improvement and this year has been far from an improvement. But to say the NHL is the worst league in this regard is just simply not true that's all I'm saying. To absolutely rip apart the integrity of the league over a situation which is happening in all other major sports is what I disagree with.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 There is no blown call here at all or any mess up at all or any conspiracy to push the Pens. Any pointing to favouring the Pens here is just asinine. The issue here is the rule itself, which I think is beyond comprehension and should change. I've looked at the replays and too anyone watching, it's almost beyond a reasonable doubt that the only possible place the puck could be, during some of the time, is across the line. HOWEVER, and this is a big HOWEVER, there is no camera shot that actually shows the puck when it is in the net. Those mentioning the shot at 6:13, yes, it looks pretty clear that the puck must be in the net, but the only time the puck is visible is when it falls to the ice along the goalie's pads....at this point in time, it's on the goal line, not in the net. Yes, it "was" in the net, but not when you can actually see the puck. As stupid as this is, based on the rules as they exist, the correct call is no goal. I've seen similar goals called off where the puck is in the goalie's trapper, which is across the line, but since you can't see puck, it can't be called a goal. Stupid, stupid rule. I know you want to remove as much judgment as possible, but I'd be pretty comfortable trusting someone to make an appropriate judgment call here when they have several camera angles and slow mo at their fingers tips. Who cares about needing conclusiveness to overturn the call made on the ice? There is no way the ref is going to have the same opportunity to make such an informed judgment call. Stiffy 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2010 Somewhat on topic, the NHL has the s***tiest video player of all. I cannot tell you how many potential new fans I know who get frustrated with it and leave.
