GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 2-3 weeks is a big freaking setback. He should have been back already based on early reports as recently as a few weeks back. He's our best offensive defenseman too.

Yzermania 156 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 yah he was playing fantastic. Last I saw, I remember him saying he had another shot I believe and he hadn't felt that good in a while.

Yzerman191 37 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 Absence makes the heart grow fonder, I suppose. No way was Kronwall our best defenseman of the season; Lidstrom and Stuart were both easily better. You could definitely make the case that Kronwall was better than Rafalski before his absence, and it's no question that he's outplayed the others.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 17, 2010 A visit to a nerve specialist this afternoon left the Detroit Red Wings with the same information delivered by every other doctor defenseman Niklas Kronwall has seen: Everything is normal, and no one can quite figure out why Kronwall hasn’t recovered yet from a sprained left MCL suffered Nov. 21. “Everyone is frustrated because we’re used to doing tests and having answers,†general manager Ken Holland said today, “and this is a case where we’re doing tests, and everything keeps showing up normal. And yet Niklas can do certain drills, but when he does other things, it hurts him, and he can’t do them. All the tests, all the scans, show everything is normal. Today, the specialist did conduction tests with Kronwall, and everything was normal. So the only conclusion we can make is that we need to give it more time.†- FreeP

datterberg1340 626 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 hope he can can return sooner rather than later, of course; he's missed 27 games now and we sorely need him to solidify the D, Meech and Lebda simply cannot do it; when he does come back I'd like to see pairings like this: Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall Stuart Ericsson Janik Lebda (even though I know Babcock will continue to play Lebda over Janik for no apparent good reason)
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) I think he'll be back pretty soon. Last I read about him he was feeling better and was hoping to start pushing it more during next week and hopefully be back playing shortly after that. So 2 weeks I'd say at most. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, I suppose. No way was Kronwall our best defenseman of the season; Lidstrom and Stuart were both easily better. You could definitely make the case that Kronwall was better than Rafalski before his absence, and it's no question that he's outplayed the others. Offensively he was easily our best d-man. Defensively he was probably 3rd behind Stuart and Lids. Edited January 18, 2010 by dat's sick
Zetts 236 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 I take it he is definitely not playing in the Olympics? That break is going to be so crucial for us. My impression certainly isn't that it would be definite that he wouldn't play. He should be back by then. Of course, he also should have been back a couple of weeks ago. You could definitely make the case that Kronwall was better than Rafalski before his absence, and it's no question that he's outplayed the others. Easily better? No way. He had 5 goals, 3 on the powerplay. 13 points and a +3 in only 21 games. And when he was around our breakout game was stronger as was the powerplay. Plus, he and Stuart were really starting to jell the way they had in the playoffs prior to his injury. Franzen has been the biggest missing piece, but Kronwall would provide alot of offence from the back end that we're missing. (I mean come on Lidstrom+Rafalski have attributed for the same amount of goals and have played in the majority of the games.) Phazon 24 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 I take it he is definitely not playing in the Olympics? That break is going to be so crucial for us. Sweden needs kronwall for olympics. We're already without franzen, and to be without kronwall would be impossible to win gold.

NorCalGrl 9 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 From an Aftonbladet article published on the 15th: (Google translated from Swedish to English, so it's a little rough; however, the last sentence sounds promising) "Good news tonight - Olympics will not be in danger: "It feels much better" NEW YORK. Niklas Kronwall is back on the ice. And now he begins to get its bad knee. - I'm still not quite where I want to be, but it felt a lot better than last time I skated. When it does, I think I may start to run at full speed again. OS-start should not be in danger? - No, I think I can begin to take in the full after the weekend. Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 i think he is important, ever since i saw kronwall in his first game for detroit he had a spark that i enjoyed. i think we dont have any d right now with the spark, its just a nice energy that players bring, nice creativity, and we are missing that from the d without kronwall
