Firehawk 305 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 THis is like playoff hockey all season long. It was nice in the past to have stress free seasons where you were 100% sure your team was making it, but this year every game is very important, which makes me look forward to every game, just like I do in playoff season. I love it. But of course, I just hope we make it.
Stu in Israel 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 At precisely 9:04 this am - Jack Johnson is traded to the Red Wings for Lebda, Leino, and 2 dozen Tim Horton's donuts. In his 1st game as a Red Wing - he scores a pp goal, assists on another, and beats the snot outta his old teammate Kopitar for a Gordie Howe hat trick. You heard it here 1st I wish you people would stop with this complete fabrication of a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick!" I began watching the Red Wings during Howe's era, and I remember him saying, "Scoring hurts them more!" Kevin Allen discusses the Gordie Howe Hat Trick myth By George Malik April 12, 2009, 3:39PM USA Today's Kevin Allen posted an article about "Gordie Howe hat tricks" on his USA Today blog, and the Detroit Free Press almost immediately picked it up. Long story short, Gordie Howe only registered one "hat trick" in his long tenure as a Detroit Red Wing: April 12, USA Today/Detroit Free Press: Although Howe was the most feared physical force and best fighter in his era after he took down Lou Fontinato in 1959, he actually only recorded one Gordie Howe Hat Trick during his 26-season NHL career. That came Oct. 11, 1953 at Detroit's Olympia Stadium when he fought Fern Flaman and recorded a goal and two assists in a 4-0 triumph against the Toronto Maple Leafs. [brendan] Shanahan, meanwhile, leads all active NHL players with 17 Gordie Howe Hat Tricks.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 The Gordie Howe Hat Trick is in honour of him because he scored and fought. He was tough and talented. People from Denmark (generally) aren't round pastries with fruit in the middle, but no one gets confused if we use the word "Danish" in reference to either. We all know what a Gordie is. It's part of the vernacular, regardless of its origin. Everyone scores a Gordie tonight, including both goalies. Unfortunately, this results in a lot of penalties, so the Wings win 21-20, with the final goal scored by Bertuzzi in the 95th round of the shootout. LGW! Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted January 23, 2010 I like the idea of Jack Johnson, but whats up with the -18? Holy cow! Yea, he's been terrible this year. He also missed during Score-O at the Michigan-Ferris game last night and some chucklehead from the stands scored. Also, Tim Horton's donuts are pretty good -- 2 dozen of them might be too high a price. 4-2 Wings. Zetterberg, Bertuzzi, Lidstrom, Eaves
