What a demoralising loss <_<

Our boys looked as though they tried not to lose instead of trying to win this game.

It's times like this I wish we'd have Scotty Bowman as our head coach; he'd sit quit a few players, and would make moves to rid the team of dead weight.

You hit the nail on the head, Holland I think may be to afraid to make moves during the season. I mean moves that involve shipping players out, it seems like Lebda should have been gone a year ago

I posted this else where but now I'll post it here. Does this make sense to anyone else?:

Just an observation.

I'm a Babs fan but every game I am starting to see more and more strategical flaws.

When we get a lead we blow it. How? We sit back. We stop forehecking. We collapse around the net.

Our wingers don't play high. Yet our goals against all come from down low if the are not playing up high they should at lest be pressuring the wings which they aren't. 4-2 with less than 5 minutes to go. We could continue to forecheck forcing the other team to make mistakes but we don't. We retreat back in to a shell and then let the other team dictate how the play will go. I wasn't worried before but maybe I am now.

Watching todays collapse and watching our previous collapses it shows. When we get the lead we just fold it up. This seems like a coaching thing. Defend the lead and collapse.

It's not working.

In case anyone wants to know exactly...

The Red Wings have blown third-period leads in four consecutive games and in five of their last six. They have squandered two-goal leads in four of those games, losing 3-2 in a shootout at Dallas Jan. 16, beating Minnesota 4-3 in a shootout last Thursday and losing 3-2 in regulation to Los Angeles on Saturday.

Wait, let me beat nightballs to it:

More bandwagoners dropping off. Terminate your accounts. I'm superior to you. You are not allowed to express your displeasure. You must be a bandwagon fan. I am superior. I am superior. I have an inferiority complex, err, I mean, I am superior. Terminate your accounts.

How was that?

While I read that I just pictured a 12 year old skinny and zitty kid pumping his fists in the air in front of his computer, then falling from his booster seat. Well done.

Anybody catch the Babcock's comments after the game? What did he say?

Usually I find myself pretty disappointed in Babcock's comments after games like these. Maybe he says different things in the locker room, but sometimes I just want to hear him rip the team apart when I'm angry after a pitiful loss like the one tonight. The most annoying part is they're truly running out of time to make up these squandered points.

I could see losing if we were one of the less successful teams in the league, where we simply lack the coaching, managing, goaltending, defensive, or offensive talent needed to win. That's not the case though; we've still got a roster with Zetterberg, Datsyuk, lots of capable secondary scorers and role players, and we're probably top five in the league in terms of defensive talent. We've also got a young, hot goaltender who has performed better than we could've imagined, as well as a clutch goaltender sitting on the sidelines. The talent is there; the coaching is there; the leadership and experience is there.

So I guess my question is, why do we keep losing to these teams?

I don't mind disagreement. I encourage it. It makes for better discussion. What I do mind is sarcastic trash that adds nothing to the discussion.

I'm going to go back talking hockey now. After all, this is a hockey forum and not a place for us to argue. PM me if you still have an issue with this, but this is getting ridiculous and is wasting space. No one else needs anymore of this junk.

Just got home. Unbelievable. People were chanting "let's go Phoenix" walking out. Even the staff was just livid...I head more "unbelievable" comments than ever before in my life. I don't even know what to say...

Now LGW knows who to blame for the loss. After all, Leino wasn't playing. :hehe:

What kind of comments were you hearing? What was the place like after the OT goal?

Here is the big question:

Which is worse...continuously getting shut out, or continuously blowing two-goal leads?

rather get shutout.

with a lead you have some confidence and hope you can at least win. more hope then confidence nowadays though

I'm sure most of that emotion is shown behind closed doors. The Wings have been always very good at hiding bad emotions.

Man, it was unreal...I mean, tons of people left when we scored our fourth goal. The rest of us were just enjoying the ride. But the crowd was stunned to silence when they tied it up and I think we were pretty geared up to lose it at that point. So when it actually happened, no one was surprised. We just got up and left muttering under our breaths...

I talked to some other fans and some staff we know. Pretty consistent stuff across the board...

Lots of blame on the D dropping the ball tonight...mostly Ericsson, but he deserved it. It's actually amazing watching games live; I forget how much more you see from watching on TV. The thing is, great players look better and s***ty players looked worse. Ericsson looked like s***, plain and simple. He made so many bonehead passes and dropped the ball on coverage right and left. With a goalie like Howard who doesn't swallow up the puck as much, Ericsson is an accident waiting to happen on every shift because even if he gets the puck he'll make a STUPID ASS PASS!!! It was unreal...

Aside from Ericsson, Stuart took a bit of s*** from people but people were saying he's been good most of the time, which is true.

No one was really blaming Howard but they noted that the hot streak has definitely cooled off. It's definitely not fair to pin the loss on him but he's not giving Babcock any reason to keep him in every game either lately. Everyone seemed ready for Osgood it seems.

Other than that, just lots of "unbelievable...this team is not ready for the playoffs."

You could definitely tell on tv that the Joe emptied out quite a bit, but that's expected. I would be one of those staying behind for the final horn. I paid to see the whole game and I'm going to stay for the whole game.

Ericsson looked brutal on tv so I can't imagine him looking much worse. I'm starting to think that a short trip to the press box will do him some good. Did anyone mention Rafa? He wasn't on top of things tonight.

I'm a big Jimmy fan (SURPRISE :D) but I agree. It's time for Ozzie and I see no excuse for not playing Ozzie tomorrow in Minny. It's time to introduce a more consistent goalie rotation.

I don't know what to think. I certainly feel better about this team now than I did a month or two ago. I'm seeing the old Wings team from the last three seasons, I think. But for some reason, it's just not clicking.

I held off posting until I cooled off, but I'm still baffled. How can four consecutive games (and five of the last six) end up with blown leads, almost all 2 goal leads? When it was 4-2 it seemed all but locked up, and then all of a sudden, it's over and the Wings lost.

I can't explain it. I know at least the last goal came from the Wings yet again not covering their man, but other than that I'm not sure what to say. The only real flaws I see with this team right now are the brutal powerplay and occasionally not covering a man.

Certainly the team is better off than it was, but why aren't the wins following the improved play? It's almost a waste of time to watch the games now, because no matter how good the game is going, it's almost inevitable (it seems) that they will lose (or scrape a shootout win).

I can't really fault anyone in this game, except for Ericsson blatantly letting Doan slip in front of the net for the final goal. But maybe it's time for Osgood. Not a judgement on Howard, who played huge, but if Osgood doesn't work out, the Wings will just have to play from behind which might give them better odds of winning at this point.

Howard needs a break at some point, might as well do it now.

But at least the Wings got a point. It's enough to cling to 8th for now, but they need to be getting 2 point games soon to prevent from missing playoffs by a point.
