I suppose that for Abdelkader, Eaves and Miller, Holland will wait till the end of the playoffs.. there's not a ton of rush for Eaves, Abs or Helm, as they're all RFA's and offer sheets have kinda gone away in the last few years... I think priority will go: Lidstrom (and if he's coming back or not) Holmstrom (and if he's coming back or not) Bertuzzi number 6 d-man (Lilja if he's healthy?) Miller then RFA's - Helm Abs Eaves Ritola Larsson Kolosov etc, etc, etc... Resign: Eaves, Bertuzzi, Helm, Abby, Miller Get rid of: Ledba, Meech Undecided: Leino, Williams Leino is already signed for next year one way or another... I don't think Williams will be back, unless he really lights it up this second half Edited January 26, 2010 by stevkrause

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 I think Bert will get signed soon unless he signs another one year deal. He's 35 in February so any multi-year deal wouldn't be idea past then. Is Eaves still an RFA? And Leino's already signed through next season.

It doesn't matter when you sign, it's if you are 35 at the time the contract goes into effect (something that apparently escaped Philly when they signed Pronger). That rule is something I hope they revise with the next CBA. Eaves and Miller will both be RFAs (and Meech). Edited January 26, 2010 by egroen
FinWing 26 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 I think most signings will be dealt with after the playoffs, which is typical of Holland.

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Resign: Eaves, Bertuzzi, Helm, Abby, Miller Get rid of: Ledba, Meech Undecided: Leino, Williams Barring a record breaking playoffs, Williams and Leino will be gone. I guess I agree with what you've said here. Both Leino and Williams are essentially useless. Williams was just cheap roster filler.

Both Leino and Williams are essentially useless. Williams was just cheap roster filler. I think Holland basically took a flier on both Williams and Bertuzzi, hoping one of them would stick and it'd be a bargain... and it worked... It's the resurgence of Bert that makes me think Williams is gone either way... we really only needed one of them to stick, both sticking would have been too expensive past this year anyway... LeftWinger 5,149 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 I think most signings will be dealt with after the playoffs, which is typical of Holland. ya, and he'll wait for Lidstrom to drag his feet through August before deciding whether or not he will retire, after that all the UFA's (including Bertuzzi) will be gone... Oh and I left out that he'll give LIdstrom $9M
swiss_fan 3 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Sign Bert way down the road. Give him something to play for. That's a good idea, but at the end if he plays good he could cost us much more than 1,5 mil to resign him

Williams was brought here to contribute. and has had a unfortunate mis hap.... Still would need to light it up if he expects a contract from Holland.... Miller on the other hand should be signed... Still would need to light it up if he expects a contract from Holland.... Miller on the other hand should be signed... Williams was brought in because we couldn't afford anyone better and needed someone to fill a roster spot. Yes, they hoped he would score, but at least very few of the fans expected much from him. It was a low-risk chance Holland took. Being that Bertuzzi has worked out, Williams becomes a bit redundant (again, barring a great performance for the rest of the season and playoffs). Given the cap situation, I'd say Williams, Eaves, May and Bertuzzi were all roster fillers, not people we actively sought out as "the final pieces" to our team. The off-season gave the impression assembling the team was a bit hodgepodge (by necessity). And obviously Miller came along a bit later but was in the same vein. I'd say Eaves, Bertuzzi and May have worked out. Williams hasn't had much of an opportunity but there isn't much time left for him to make a mark.
Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted January 27, 2010 In theory Eaves Miller and Helm could be our 3/4th line next year at a cost of $1.625m, which in all is a good deal. Bert I feel has earned himself another contract. Williams has had a ill timed injury and he was bought in to man the point on the 2nd pp unit, which Kindl will be doing next year. Kindls contract for next year is half of what Williams is getting. I'd be very surprised if he is kept next year. I have a feeling that Maltby will hang them up at the end of this year. He knows how the org works and he has been kept in the family maybe a couple of years longer than he ought to have been and he'll repay them by making the decision for them. Although May has done what has been asked of him this will be his only year as a Wing. I would really like us to keep this sort of player on the team but we need a younger version who can make a impact on the scoreboard as well as the opponents chins, whose out there who'll be available? Im not sure about Homer, he does what he does best of all bare none, but he is starting to look to slow to be out on the top 2 lines. Could we use him as a 4th line and PP specialist next year. It needs thinking about, but he would have to take a drop in his $ as $2.25m is too expensive for that sort of role. the other3 UFA's are all on the D. #1 Lids, needs sorting out first so Holland knows what he will be playing with. Unwritten rule that no one earns more than the Capt. Well Pav is the next highest earner on $6.7m, so if the rule stays in tact then Lids gets $6.8m at least. Not much of a drop from his current $7.45m! One would hope that if Nic does carry on playing then he would help out be dropping at least to $5m to give Kenny some spending clout for next year. I hope Lilja gets the all clear and gets re-signed. We sure have missed the underated chap. With Kindl coming up, I think that both Meech and Lebda could be gone next year, if not sooner. This will all depend on Lids giving Kenny an early indication of his intentions for next season. If he hangs them up then Kenny will have to go and get a bonifide top 4 guy at least top 2 at best. This off season is going to be very interesting.

Oh and I left out that he'll give LIdstrom $9M Lidstrom is a special case and I'm sure he must make up his mind way before July 1st as well. And I don't see why he would cripple the Wings' off-season and tie Holland's hands up by holding out anyway.
