I've been a Red Wings fan since -99. But if Team Finland and Red Wings would play, I'd cheer for Finland. I think anyone of these fans outside NA would be either lying or very unpatriotic if they'd say something else.

I guess I'm not terribly patriotic; if the Red Wings played Team USA, I'd be yelling at the TV for them to kick USA's ass.

I'm Canadian. I live in Halifax. We hosted the World Juniors few years back. Great tourney to have had local. Grigs, Hudler, Flip, Fleishmann. Anyway.... finals... Canada vs. Russia. I cheered for Grigs. Got some weird looks.

If there's ever another world war, I'll cheer for my country, but this is hockey. I'm a wings fan. I cheer for wings players and prospects. Not some other team's guys cause they are from my country. If there are no wings guys in the mix, i cheer for Canada by default.

As for Flip, looked good tonight.

List of the forwards that are in the range from 0.5706896552ppg to 0.6706896552ppg:

Jason Arnott

Brandon Dubinsky

Andy McDonald

Matthew Lombardi

Scott Gomez (Sather)

Ryane Clowe

Kyle Okposo

R.J. Umberger

Mikael Samuelsson

Matt Duchene

Chris Kunitz

Johan Franzen

Mikael Backlund

Scottie Upshall

Matt Cullen

Dan Sexton

Tuomo Ruutu

Bill Guerin

Eric Fehr

Olli Jokinen

Brad Boyes

Saku Koivu

Wayne Simmonds

Andrei Kostitsyn (Note that he's above Flip's salary)

Ryan Vesce (8 games; 10 GP last year with 0 points. Disqualified).

Patric Hornqvist

Valtteri Filppula

James van Riemsdyk

Kris Versteeg

Sam Gagner

Eric Belanger

Steve Sullivan

Joffrey Lupul

Jordan Staal

Niklas Hagman

Steve Reinprecht

David Clarkson

Mikhail Grabovski

Alexander Frolov

Matt Moulson

Radim Vrbata

John Tavares

Claude Giroux

Michael Frolik

Daniel Cleary

Brenden Morrow

T.J. Oshie

There are 47 forwards in that range, which I think is enough to get realistic results.

Bolded for players who are on entry-level contracts. Flip is on his first big contract, and as such it's not realistic to compare him to players on entry-level contracts. Any upcoming RFAs are disqualified. I also disqualified Gomez and since he was signed by a ridiculous Rangers GM (whom shall go unnamed) at expectations of production greatly exceeding the other players on this list.

Now that that's done, here's the average among the remaining 26 non-bolded players:

3.356 (rounded)

Not taking into account defensive ability (in which he ranks higher than > half of the list) and physicality (in which he ranks lower than > half of the list), Flip is about $350,000 under the average. While he's neither the best bargain or the best player in the list, I'd say he ranks among the better bargains of the list. The unbolded is a damned solid group of players. Hell, almost all of the list is (except Ryan Pesce wtf).

Yep. So we have 3 full seasons to go on. Thus far. You can't have it both ways. You can't say that I don't have the numbers to back up what I say, then disclude the fact that I am using his track record.

And the track record thus far is that he has increased his points production every season (1, 17, 36, 40) - therefore your claim that he has maxed out at 40 points is flawed. He may have done, but I doubt it.

He's going to get close to 40 points this season and he's missed 26 games. And I don't care that he will never be a big-time sniper if his career potential is to be a consistent 50-60 assist/season setup man because that's what he is, a setup man. Hell, he might even be a Selke contender in the near future.

Yeah, but I meant every fan who doesn't cheer for USA or Canada. If my favourite club here in Finland would play against Team Finland, of course I'd cheer for my favourite club. You probably know what I mean. Edited by Finnish Wing
