Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 What is the West's record against the East this year? I ask this after watching the Kings score twice in the last 2 minutes to beat NJ, 3-2.
Zeta Power 40 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 (edited) The east sucks. I think it's safe to say we won't catch LA or Phoenix this year. Phoenix up 3-1 over Dallas right now. Tippett is showing his old team how dumb it was to fire him and hire a dumbass like Marc Crawford Edited February 1, 2010 by Zeta Power
jeff48109 474 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 look at the teams in the east, maybe only the top 5 deserve a play off spot. the remaining 3 will be filled by very average teams at best

Zeta Power 40 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 (edited) atleast dallas is losing yeah thats true. That gives a cushion right now from the teams below us. It would help to start winning some games here though. Edited February 1, 2010 by Zeta Power
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 I did the math with NHL.com. The west is: 109-63-20 against the east. Translation: the East is absolutely garbage. If the West was a team, and you average the West's record to what it would be on pace for in an 82 game season the West's record would be: 46-27-9 ... good for 101 points. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 On the bright side, if the Wings had the same record in the East, they'd be safely in the playoffs.

I ask this after watching the Kings score twice in the last 2 minutes to beat NJ, 3-2. Best records are.... Canucks - 10-1-0 Avs - 10-4-1 Sharks - 10-2-1 Kings - 12-3-0 Edited February 1, 2010 by Chairman Maouth
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 As I've said all along, the teams ahead of us deserve to get in more than we do. They're beating the best in the East, while we're losing 6-0 against the Islanders. Doesn't help that we can't beat these teams in the West head to head very often. Seems like pretty much everyone in the West is better than us this season. That's a tough pill for some here to swallow, but it's true.

While we aren't playing like we have had for the past 15 years, if not for injuries, we'd be sitting about 4-5th place. You just like being dour. I bet you are an emo kid. Our injured players have returned for the most part. We're better on paper than the other teams in the West the last two weeks, yet, we still lose to those teams and blow leads. The injuries were a good excuse earlier in the season, but it's become apparent recently that this team just isn't that good. Get over the denial.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 Haha, GMR an emo kid? Maybe for Halloween and even that's a stretch. I can't believe these posters are still taking the injury angle. We're almost healthy as a team, yet we got outshot 2 to 1 by both Nashville and Pittsburgh. I suppose when Homer comes back, that's going to stop magically? Why can't people just come to terms with this team not being very good and likely missing the playoffs?

And, like I always say, people seem to forget that for the first three games of the season we DID have a full, healthy lineup yet STILL did not look good. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 Dont worry guys, GMR is a troll here from letsgopens.com. Dont worry about him Seriously, the Wings dont have excuses anymore. Winning fixes everything, we'll be fully healthy god willing on Febuary 9th and on. Time to get in gear or it's too late.

Why can't people just come to terms with this team not being very good and likely missing the playoffs? http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...ngs_in_sho.html "Our execution and our speed and the way we're playing, I don't know if we look exhausted, but we're not emotionally very fresh,'' Babcock said. "And yet, we just played four games in 5 1/2 days. That's the way the NHL is this year (due to a slightly compressed schedule because of the Olympic break). And now we got a day to travel and play again back-to-back (Tuesday and Wednesday in San Jose and Anaheim). "We got to find it within ourselves to have more emotion and more energy and to skate better. That's the only way we're going to come through this." That's probably the "better" angle. But what answer does anyone have for that?
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted February 1, 2010 Why can't people just come to terms with this team not being very good and likely missing the playoffs? Because this team is not "not very good". This team is actually likely to make the playoffs (hint- a team ahead of us went into firesale mode today). No, we are not playing the kind of hockey we are all used to, but we are used to dominant teams. We don't have *that* anymore. And it's not the "injury angle", it's the truth. It's not an excuse. I'm not absolving the season. But when you are second in the league in man-days lost, and most of those days are on higher end talent, it affects your performance. Do I think we'll get out of the first round? Meh, we'd need a favorable match-up and some luck. I highly doubt we continue our streak of WCF. But I'm not gonna write this team off. I know what these players are capable of. I can honestly say I would not be surprised if we were in the conference finals this year. I'd never gamble on it. It's not probable at all. But I wouldn't be surprised. So, you can be all defeated... in February (though you phoned it in in December, if not earlier) and that's fine. But to pretend the season is over and we should all go home is ridiculous.
