There is so much debate in the Val Filppula thread, I thought a simple poll would suffice.

Michael Handzus, Rod Brind'Amour, Jarret Stoll, Tuomo Ruutu, Tyler Bozak, Mike Fisher, Andy McDonald, Patrice Bergeron, Michael Nylander, Shawn Horcoff, Jochen Hecht, Mike Modano, Dave Bolland, and Chris Drury all make more than Filppula.

Mostly all comparable players (at this point in their careers) and all make more than Filppula.

$3 million for Filppula is fine.

id say that hes a bit overpaid because id say bertuzzi and clears produce at least as much or more than he does, or at least fit in the team better and they make less. but hes not much overpaid, id like that number a bit bellow what it is.

For the sake of argument, Filppula's points per game is better than both Bert and Cleary. (And he's better than both defensively)

all of those players at some point in their careers have done something that warrants a salary of 3M. at this point in his career val has a career high of 40 points.

Okay, so they were paid based on the past and Val is being paid based on the future.

Right now, there's nothing wrong with Filppula making $3 million.

theres a huge difference between the past and the future: One has been done, while the other might be done. see the difference?

Your argument is not logical; otherwise, paying Ovechkin was a terrible move on the part of the Caps.

When a guy shows consistent promise and shows he can produce in the playoffs and he is 22-23 at the time of re-signing, you pay for the future in hopes it pans out, and like Holland thought, it has paid off. When your head coach says you were the best player for the first half of the season and you're only making 3mil, that is not being overpaid.
