Finnish Wing

Brandon Dubinsky calling Sidney Crosby a little baby

It had to be obvious that when Sidney Crosby appeared in a thread title, this thing was going to go on for a long, long time.

The bottom line is very simple:

1. Crosby is really good.

2. Crosby has whined and sometimes still does. It bugs some people more than others.

3. He robbed us of a Stanley Cup. Therefore, nobody here likes him (or nobody should).

...except for this two week period.

But after THAT, nobody likes him.

Hahahah. Basically sums it up. 3 is the only reason I can see to why this is going on 8+ pages, the blind Crosby hate is astounding, it really does show the maturity level on this forum.

Yeah?

Then howcome no Red Wings are mentioned during Lions games? The Lions are everything you just described and worse, and the Wings are bigger than the Caps. Not a single hockey player from the California area is mentioned during Raider games. When Chicago is playing a nationally televised game, you don't hear jack about any Hawks and they're the flavor of the month. You also have to take into account, this was MNF. They don't like to do much that they consider a waste of air time.

He quite clearly as I explained transcends hockey. You can argue all you want because you see it as a competition now but he just does, like him or not. You're not telling me how he doesn't, you're just making excuses for why he clearly does.

PTI doesn't talk about hockey. Unless it's a crazy play, or Ovechkin doing something really cool. Everytime he does he's on there. Is that not the definition of transcending hockey? Are you really going to sit here and play devil's advocate and try to downplay every single thing I said? Then explain to me why no other Caps were mentioned before him? They've had great plays and players.

I saw this reply coming a mile away. You have it backwards.

They're not hyping him up because they signed him, they signed him because he has hype around him. These people don't just take gambles and hope to hell he turns out, especially when they haven't had any other hockey players signed in years.

I don't say this in these words very often, but you're just completely wrong. You're arguing nonsensical points and are just flat out wrong.

I'm not wrong, I'm saying that no current hockey player is transcending hockey, showing up on a sports show that is primarily about other sports isn't transcending...call me when he's hosting Saturday Night Live or is a presenter at the MTV Music awards or is getting interviewed by Barbara Walters on 20/20 or making public appearances of this magnitude on a regular basis. That is transcending, being talked about on two programs run on a sports network that don't usually mention hockey is nice, but not transcendent.....the points you are arguing is mainly that Ovechkin should be the face of the NHL because you think he has the potential to transcend hockey, which very may be true, but the fact of the matter is that he is not currently transcending hockey

By, the way the reason no Wings are mentioned during Lions games is because all of the Lions games are blacked out these days lol

As far as IMG saying that he transcends hockey, of course they're gonna say that..they didn't become a large sports marketing firm without knowing how to pump up their own clients...

It's not that IMG "said" anything, it's that they bothered to sign a hockey player for the first time in a long time. We're talking about the firm representing Manning, Tiger Woods, Kobe Bryant, and basically every other top star from every other sport (previously Gretzky's management too). It means that they actually believe he is someone capable of transcending the sport, and the words are irrelevant because the actions speak volumes on the subject. Why didn't they go with Crosby? Simply because Crosby's game is less flashy and his personality is the food equivalent of dried oats. I never thought I'd see the day when a arrogant Russian was becoming a revered household name in the US, but he has an exciting game and an exciting personality, and that's what people are drawn to.

Let's be honest with something... have you ever heard of another hockey player shutting down the downtown of America's largest city to take a Zamboni ride? That's not DC, that's NYC, and there's no other hockey player playing right now capable of commanding that attention; like him or not.

Not me. Claudia was a piece of s*** and deserved it. I especially liked it when Mac dragged his bloody ass over to the Wings bench. I've often wondered if he made Claudette apologize to Drapes......

Just goes to show that a lot of people on this site have a tendency to turn a blind eye to every single instance of borderline dirty/ outright dirty play a Red Wing player performs on or off the ice.

That is in essence what GS&T was pointing to.

Did someone dare imply Red Wings fans favor the Red Wings???

Show me the clip where an 18 year old Crosby ever campaigned himself to be the face of the league, cuz if it exists i sure haven't seen it. The kid grew up an amazing hockey player and in today's day and age (for better or worse) that comes with overly excessive hype. The guy worked his whole life to get into the NHL, he does so and is one of the best young talents to enter the league in years...meanwhile a down league looking for a player to build it's image around for the next decade or so basically had to choose between a politically correct, baby faced North American born kid or a scruffy, slobby looking Russian born player who was missing teeth and has an extremely flamboyant, "wildcard" attitude and lifestyle..naturally they went with the safe bet in Crosby...what was Crosby supposed to do?? Tell Bettman he didn't want to be on all of those posters and commercials because people like you might accuse the league of being biased if he someday ever won a Cup?? No one in their right mind would say no to that...including a player like Kirk Maltby who was never half of the player that Crosby already is.

Gez, I've been reading this thread and getting a kick out of it.

I was going to read it and move on but now I have to ask. How the hell do you get through life with Sid's jockstrap on your face? Do people look at you funny.

/not really a fan of Crosby but the hate can get irrational

//not really a fan of Ovie, if he doesn't knock it off one of his knee to knee hits will end a career(maybe his)

This is what I'm saying but there's no talking to the guy. He's just wrong. He doesn't think a player transcends a sport unless he does really, really does. Alot.

Ok buddy, i guess i hold the word "transcend" to a higher standard, but apparently all you think you have to do to transcend is to have somebody mention your name on a program that doesn't cover your sport...in that case there are thousands of athletes that transcend every decade, yea you're right Ovechkin transcends

siren_animated1.gif MASS HYPERBOLE ALERT!! MASS HYPERBOLE ALERT!!! siren_animated1.gif

I think it is the 2nd part that is much worse!

Crosby is arguably the greatest hockey player right now (though Ovechkin has probably a better case), but he is not even close to the greatest player since Gretzky. Hello? Mario?

Nobody. Else. Gets. Mentioned.

How hard is this to understand? You're just being stubborn.

A marketing firm dedicated to representing the likes of Kobe, Lebron, Tiger, etc., picked him up. You don't even have decent explanations and ignore when we shoot down your flimsy excuses.

So Doc, how's your boy lookin now?

 Oh boy, here we go. I'm a doucher because I pointed out how your post made no sense? Right on bud.

Yeah, why would anyone want their kid to be like Sidney Crosby.

And you're telling me to get a better perspective? Are you ******* high?!

One, way to take everything positive about Crosby and act like it's all their is to him. Two, he doesn't transcend hockey. That's Ovechkin you're thinking of.

There are many other millionaires in this league and in sports and many of them make more than little Sid. They also don't have to be immature whiny assholes.

Again, just because he's not doing something worse somehow makes him completely OK in your eyes. Next time I smack someone and get hauled downtown on assault charges, I'll tell them "hey, doucher, at least I didn't kill them". When I get out I'll tell you how it turned out.

I don't see a Probert playing here anymore. I don't see Bertuzzi doing what he did in Vancouver here. Or did you miss that part? The concept of a debate smart guy, is to counter what someone else says. I shot down the Bertuzzi bulls*** and you just puked it up again. And McCarty? Are you f***in kidding? Gtf outta here, McCarty fights like a man, doesn't whine to the media. Come back when you're ready to converse like men. You're stretching more than Mr. f***in Fantastic just to argue pointlessly. I guess every board has their attention *****.

Once again, and I dunno if you just missed this part or were too lazy to read it, but it's not any one single action. It's his collective attitude since day one. This is not difficult to understand.

Like I said.....the forum seems to have no shortage of douchers signing up these days.

You're seriously suggesting that Ovechkin is the only current hockey player that has gotten mentioned on a non-hockey sports program??? You've have had a lot of stupid remarks on this site but that assertion may top the list

That's actually not what I'm suggesting. Learn to read and maybe your assertions will be taken seriously by individuals not associated with the local peanut gallery.

It's that he's mentioned so consistently out of his element.

Why do you think that firm signed him and no other hockey players?

Seriously, swallow your pride already, you got owned.

Say what you mean.."nobody else gets mentioned" means you think nobody else gets mentioned at all...Also idk what you're obsession is with this entertainment company, congratulations Ovie got signed by a big promotion company, cool...maybe he'll show up in half as many ads as Crosby does...Not that any of this is pertinent because we're not going to agree, but the bottom line whether you like it or not is that Crosby will almost certainly always be marketed as the face of the NHL over Ovechkin due to everything he touches turning to gold (speaking of gold, to all those Crosby haters out there, i suggest not watching Olympics hockey because Canada is gonna coast to victory) and the fact that he is from North America....I'm sorry that this upsets you but you're no longer making valid arguments you're just talking about how my points are wrong and how right you are and I'm not going to continue fighting with a babbling idiot by yourself about this topic.
