It's time for payback from 2002!

I have to work during this game, and somehow I think the score is going to be hard to escape from since I work in public.

I hope USA wins. I honestly have my doubts that they can, but they're the harder working team. At the very least it shouldn't be a massacre. USA has the best defense of any team Canada has had to play, and probably the second best defense in the tournament.

But how awesome would it be to defeat Canada to make up for that '02 loss? It would suck for hockey if Crosby wins the Gold.

I don't recollect why, but I don't remember there being so much hype 8 years ago.

The hype this time around is unreal.

I've never seen anything like it in my time living in America. People who don't know s*** about hockey are talking about it everywhere. For some reason, no one seemed to care back in 2002.

Canadians didn't hate us nearly as much back then.

The key differences: Canada has Crosby now. Everyone has put so much into him that being forced to realize he's not God's gift to hockey would cause the Canadian hockey foundations to crumble.

That and they supposedly have the best team ever assembled (on paper) and they're struggling against a supposedly inferior, inexperienced USA hockey team.

But yeah, I've noticed A LOT more non-hockey fans getting excited about the tournament. They're even watching Swedish, Finnish, etc. games. I don't know why.

Payback would be nice. Honestly though if the USA can't win gold, Im glad its going to Canada and not some smelly European country.

If the game is only half as exiting as the World Juniors game was earlier this year, hockey fans are in for a real treat.

I think maybe the advertising for Crosby is alot bigger and noticeable in the States because all the talk about him being God and stuff I just don't see it. Canadian broadcasting pumps up Ovechkin alot more in my eye. TSN talks about him non-stop whereas Crosby yeah is advertised but not to the point of hatred.

I dunno maybe I just don't notice it maybe other Canadians could chime in but I'm starting to think that the NHL advertises Sid way more South of the Border.

Well, in America Crosby is the ONLY thing shown to us. Every single game features his name several times even if Pittsburgh isn't playing. All the commercials are either about him or feature him at least at a 2:1 ratio to any other team or player mentioned or seen.

Interviews alway feature him.

Crosby is the only gateway to the NHL for the non-hockey American public and it's nauseating.

Just one thing to mention about Crosby. The American media (NBC) and the NHL hype Crosby more than anyone else. It would not in any way crumble the foundations of Canadian hockey if he was to retire tomorrow or become a third line player. Hockey Canada doesn't plug him. They are there for the team. TSN and CTV don't act like he is a god, except for a few choice words from Maguire now and then. Your media built him up to where he sits right now. It has nothing to do with Canada or the foundations of hockey here.

This is true. TSN and Sportsnet only play games with Canadian teams in them, which means the Penguins don't see much Canadian air time, and neither does Crosby.

The Leafs are an entirely different story. :ranting:
