Cruiser008 37 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 (edited) When Canada won in 2002 Gretzky got a lot of credit. So I think Yzerman, who I truly felt picked the best 20 players from a ridiculously stacked list of candidates should get some credit for building this team as well. Then there's Babcock, and while he's had some Wings tune out (Leino anyone?) this season his calming influence on a occasionally erratic (panicky) Team Canada can not be understated. Congrats to both! P.S. 'grats to Kenny Holland as well! Edited March 2, 2010 by Cruiser008

egroen 384 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Babcock is now the first ever coach of the Triple Gold Club (World Championship, Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold). Eric Staal joined it as well.
The Secret 304 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Even in retirement Stevie still shows why he is/was/and always will be the best! Babcock is still building his impressive legacy and now to return his focus on getting our Red Wings back to the winning... there is alot to be said for all the great things said about Babcock by all the Team Canada players and Staff! Congrats to Stevie and Coach Babcock!
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 I was wondering if they would get any credit. When Canada lost to the US they sure got a lot of s***, both around here and elsewhere. Then when they win gold it's all about Crosby, Toews, Doughty, Luongo etc. Babcock finds success wherever he coaches. He's won it all. Yzerman picked a well-balanced team. Not selecting Mike Green was probably the greatest roster decision he made. He would have done nothing but f*** up chemistry, pinched at the wrong times and been exposed defensively. I actually wanted Canada to win it after Sweden had been knocked out. I like Babcock, Yzerman and Holland more than I hate the plentiful douchebags on the canadian team. Also, besides the TGC, doesn't Babs have a world junior gold for coaching as well?
Guest micah Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Congrats to everyone invoved in Team Canada's gold! Steve Yzerman did a fine job selecting the best players in the worls - guys like Perry and Pronger and Crosby, and Mike Babcock did a dine job utilizing these superstars, seeing to it that they performed like only they can when their team needed it. Great show by all!
