mwagner468 12 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I know it would never happen but it would be cool if they let the number one seed in each conference pick who they played against in the first round. Then the next highest seed picks who they want to play and so on. For example if the number two seed was really banged up going into the playoffs, the number one seed might choose them for the first round. I know crazy right? dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 They do something similar to that in the Swedish Elite League. Can't say I'm a huge fan of that system. Picking your poison and all that..

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I don't know if it'd solve anything. In 2006 I would have picked Edmonton and in 2003 I would have picked Anaheim. Don't know offhand who I'd have picked in the other years, but I remember in those years that's who I wanted us to play.

mmamolo 287 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 For me, I'd hate that as a fan of the Red Wings. But watching other teams it'd be interesting for sure. Whether I like or hate other teams it'd definitely be itneresting to see if their choices worked out or came back to bite them in the ass.
king_malice 17 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 How about if they did it like soccer, they either raise the cap or just have a set cap and if you go over it you pay fines and then the bottom 2 teams in the West and bottom 2 in the East go down to the AHL and the top 2 in the West and top 2 in the East come up the the NHL. 1 mwagner468 reacted to this
Hossa4Life 4 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 This would make it so 5th through 8th are essentially the same position. It would take away the battle for better position. But it is an intresting idea.
Grim 5 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 they should re-seed at the Conference final-level (final four)... this would ensure the Cup finals are not the usual (last two years notwithstanding) snorefest.
Blaayze 25 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 Not gonna lie, I was hoping this was going to be someone suggesting "bowl games".. or "Arena Games"... hahaha! There is no way in hell they would allow that, it would decrease the parody in the league. (something that buttman would hate)
oldredbarnman 13 Report post Posted March 16, 2010 I've been saying for a long time that the NHL playoffs would be more exciting if they went back to a 16 team tournament. Division winners get the top 6 seeds, followed by the next 10 in points. The matchups would vary from round to round, and year to year. For example, if the playoffs started today, the Wings would play Pittsburgh in the first round.
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted March 17, 2010 Picking who you want to face would cause major problems (controversey etc...) That's why I say pass. All tho there are great ideas that some posters posted for some of those I would agree.
mwagner468 12 Report post Posted March 17, 2010 Yeah I know it would cause controversey. I also know it would never happen. I would just love to hear "with the number one seed the Blackhawks choose the nashville Preds.

Get rid of the conference afiliations and realign the divisions. The top 6 teams automatically make the playoffs BUT do not get seeds 1-6. So if the team plays in a weak division (SE until the last few years), you might possibly be in the lower half of the seeds. * = division leaders 1. WAS* 103 2. SJ* 96 3. CHI* 94 4. VAN* 89 5. PHO 89 6. PIT* 87 7. NJ 85 8. LA 85 9. COL 84 10. BUF* 82 11. NAS 81 12. DET 80 13. OTT 79 14. MTL 78 15. CAL 77 16. PHI 76 Make the brackets like the NCAA tourney..... 1-WAS/16-PHI 8-LA/9-COL 5-PHO/12-DET 4-VAN/13-OTT 6-PIT/11-NAS 3-CHI/14-MTL 7-NJ/10-BUF 2-SJ/15-CAL There will be no reseeding after each round, so the #1/#16 winner plays the winner of #8/#9, etc. In this example, BUF wins the division but locks up the 10 seed and are only 6 points out of the 16th seed. The "West" has 9 playoff teams.

I know they have alot more money but the teams that move up usually don't get an upgrade right away , they make money after 1st season of playing popular teams all the time. would be sweet if they did something like that, other then that i wish they got rid of the *** cap or say they set it 60mill and for every 1mill a team goes over they pay like 100k or something like that. I think as bad as Tampa and Atlanta and other teams like that if they went out and brought in top players more fans would be in attendance, sales would go up on merch. The "West" has 9 playoff teams. We seem to agree on the playoff structure, although in my scenario the division winners would get the top 6 seeds. There has to be some incentive for winning your division. The other thing I would like to see is make the regular season a more balanced schedule, that way you don't have to realign divisions or conferences. Play every team outside of the division twice, for a total of 50 games. That way, every team has to travel to the West/East coast. Then play division teams 8 times for the remaining 32 games. I know people have complained about too many division games, but as long as they are spread throughout the season, and we get to see all of the other teams and their stars, I wouldn't have a problem with it. The length of the season remains the same, every team faces each other, and makes each point and game even more important.
