Sitting Lebda

Recommended Posts

I missed any mention of why he was sitting, I just kept seeing the mentions that he WAS sitting.

Did he just get a "benching" ON the bench instead of the pressbox?

(In case someone got hurt and he had to play? I'm guessing..)

2nd night of a back-to-back and desperate for points, that's a gutsy call with 2 other forwards out with injuries.

Ya. Him and Meech were in to replace Eaves and Cleary. Meech saw very little and Lebda none. Just fillers in case another player went down. They basically on rolled 3 lines. Piecing together 3 third with other players.

That no-look backhand pass from behind the goal line to a Canuck late in the third still has me sweating bullets, though. Holy moly E, get it together brother.

haha, yeah that was awful... but he played the body good tonight and had some pretty good offensive chances

they had 8 defensemen tonight so somebody had to sit... also, Ericsson looked pretty good tonight

I thought he had a really strong game as well. He cleared the net well, was great along the boards and made what was likely a goal saving skate save. He had one turn-over in the third but the entire team had more than 5 turn-overs in that period.

I'd say Babs would be nuts to sit Ericsson against the Pens, but then again he sat him after a strong game last time too.

Agreed. I think E had a solid game, minus that "pressbox" pass he made behind his own net. I'd still like to see him be a lot more physical in front of the net. Even if he took a penalty for crosschecking or something, it'd be good to go over the line and then reel back a bit.

I'm not a big Lebda fan, but having to sit dressed on the bench like that for the entire game must be humiliating.

He can feel Ozzie's pain now.

The Wings have had nine defensemen dress for them this season. Lebda is the worst of them. Why he hasn't been waived is a complete mystery.

Assuming Lidstrom returns, the Wings' top seven and will likely go from the current list of:

Lidstrom/Kronwall/Rafalski/Stuart/Ericsson/Lilja/Meech

to next year's list of:

Lidstrom/Kronwall/Rafalski/Stuart/Ericsson/Lilja/Kindl

or:

Lidstrom/Kronwall/Rafalski/Stuart/Ericsson/Kindl/Meech

This is pretty much a given if Nick comes back. It basically comes down to Meech vs Lilja, whether management likes the idea of rotating Ericsson/Kindl/Lilja into the lineup, and how the forward group allows for the difference in contracts. My bet is on Meech, given Lilja's UFA status and most teams' need for a defensive stalwart, plus Lilja's recent concussion issues might make him choose retirement.

Sitting Lebda = good.

Getting Lebda off the roster = better.

this.

Lebda is horrible and the only reason he has looked ANY better lately, is because he is paired with Lils, Lils is a very solid stay at home defensemen and makes smart hockey plays... Ericsson has looked WORLDS better since Lilja has been back as well...

Ericsson>Meech>Lebda

I don't even like the fast that Lebda has gotten any ice time over Meech at this point...

Because he's better than Ericsson, which sucks to say. They have about the same amount of points but Lebda is a -2 while Jonathan Ericsson is a -17....

this wont be popular but as far as the rest of this year.... Lebda>Ericsson.

he's just been to big of a bonehead.

for the millionth time said on this board - ROOKIE

there are going to be some growing pains..........

Also, Lilja has been a very good steadying force for Ericsson since he's been back

Since the break:

Ericsson -

GP G A PTS +/- SHOTS HITS

5 0 0 0 -1 3 5

Lebda -

GP G A PTS +/- SHOTS HITS

5 0 1 1 +1 4 2

You want to tell me how that has been so glaringly different to justify playing a peaked, waste of a roster spot like Lebda (who will not be here next year) over a ROOKIE with tons of upside who will HOPEFULLY be a mainstay on our back-end for the next decade or so?

Also keep in mind that Ericsson has only been a negative player one of the games, whereas Lebda has been a negative player in 2 - and Ericsson's was his FIRST game ever playing with Lilja... since he has been even or positive every game...

Because he's better than Ericsson, which sucks to say. They have about the same amount of points but Lebda is a -2 while Jonathan Ericsson is a -17....

He also played a lot more minutes, as a rookie, with tons of guys injured... a lot of players were negative players during that time...

lebda's been better than ericsson easily, and this is coming from someone who hates lebda with a passion.

ericsson has been just that bad.

That's a flat out lie.

Lebda - 933 minutes on ice

Ericsson - 881 minutes on ice

Lebda has played more minutes with same people injured.

Where are you getting your stats? That may be TOTAL minutes, but E missed a few weeks with an injury...

Numbers don't lie

ATOI

Ericsson - http://espn.go.com/nhl/players/stats?playerId=3355

17:16

Lebda - http://espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=3027

Total minutes played trumps ATOI in this situation. You could play 5 games and average 20 minutes while being a negative 10 or play 10 games at 15 minutes and be a negative 5. Which is more impressive? The guy with a ATOI 20 or the guy with a ATOI of 15 all things being equal?

Disagree - that's at least an extra 3-4 shifts a game and add that to the fact that E was killing penalties... how many hockey games have you watched? there are QUITE a few goals scored AFTER a powerplay is over, but the puck is still in the zone and PK'ers are tired... occupational hazard...

I think the numbers are skewed, especially considering the partners E had prior to the break

LOLOL, how many hockey games have I watched? Are you seriously going with that statement? I digress, you clearly aren't getting it, plus you never answered my question. Ericsson had the same partners as Lebda, are you that dense?

A. Then you should know the correlation to coming off a kill when used as a penalty killer and +/- being affected

B. I was just stating that E's partners were not complimentary to his style, which will skew HIS numbers, not saying that Lebda WASN'T playing with the same guys...

C. I'm not the one slinging insults around, about a topic on a message board...

once again, all those stats are moot anyway when considering the fact he has been with Lils since the break and looked good - I'll be the first to admit that he had a weak first half, but once again - ROOKIE

Since the break, with the same partner, these are the only stats that matter to me:

Ericsson -

GP G A PTS +/- SHOTS HITS

5 0 0 0 -1 3 5

Lebda -

GP G A PTS +/- SHOTS HITS

5 0 1 1 +1 4 2

and once again.......

I'm real confused right now... I seem to recall, probably as late as Friday, Ericsson was the worse of the two since we were winning with Lebda in the lineup... now we're back to hating on Lebda? Tough to keep up with these things.

It's more a matter of your own personal opinion... it's not all about stats, it's about intangibles... even at E's worst this year I'm still soundly in the opinion of:

Ericsson>Meech>Lebda and have been all year
