Wings sign Joakim Andersson

I really hope this kid can work on his skating, because pretty much everything else is there. He'll probably end up being a 3rd line center if everything goes right.

When did you see him skate? How did it look?

His style of play is supposed to be more suited for the North American game. I was really hoping the Wings had a Sammy Pahlsson type player with him but Hakan says he's more like Filppula. So... Another 2nd/3rd tweener. Not much to get excited about I guess.

I haven't personally seen him skate, but everything I've read about him indicates that his skating, and more specifically his acceleration is a bit of an issue. He's been touted as a very good two-way forward who isn't shy with the physical stuff. He's been favorably compared to Pahlsson, so I'm on board.

What is the optimal time-line for him joining the Wings?

It all depends on how he plays in the AHL. I think the chances are slim but him playing on the Wings in 2011-2012 is not completely unrealistic, but 2 years with Grand Rapids is much more realistic.

Edit: Ahhh, nvm. I highly doubt he will be with the Wings in 11-12. For some reason I was under the impression he is much better than he actually is.

If that is indicative of his play, I could easily see him scoring 30+ goals in the NHL.

Hehe nah but it was the only video I could find of him. Better than nothing >_>

Maybe over a career :P. That dude is the epitome of a bender. But players can definitely improve their skating pretty quickly, so hopefully he does just that.
