Return of Hudler

I hope we can get Hudler back and keep Bert.

All people need to realize is this: since 'the incident' #44 hasn't thrown amother bodycheck. It pains me to see such a huge body out there going in corner after corner against somebody and all he does is use his hands to push the guy. Ugh!!

Hudler - yes! ... and it's goodbye to Williams.

What is he worth? He's restricted right? So he is worth a first and a third round pick? Could that be right? Because 2.8 million is a lot for Hudler to be honest. Who knows what kind of player he is now. I'd take the picks and try and sign a bigger fish.

He's not a free agent. He's under contract and the Wings have said they want him back. He played well in the KHL this year, it's not like he took a year off from hockey.

Forgive me if I am not jumping for joy but remember how last year we started the season with a Franzen-Zetterberg-Hudler 2nd line and we had to move Hudler down because he couldn't do anything playing in the top 6? People have brought up the point that he racked up a lot of points playing only 3rd line minutes but remember when you play third line minutes you are also playing against weaker players. I am not saying Hudler can't be a good 2nd line forward, I am just saying he has not proved it yet.

Having said that though, he is relatively young and its likely that he has not hit his peak yet. Combine that with the fact that we were desperate for any type of offense for most of the season I think it would be nice if we could bring him in without losing anyone too important.

A "Bigger fish" isn't going to sign for less than 3 mil.

Hudler is going to have a much better season than Dan Cleary, who is being paid the same.

Not necessarily old news. This is the first I've heard from a credible source that he is for sure coming back. Although, I won't believe it until I hear it from Kenny.

After the playoffs he will say something I am sure.. We all know he doesnt talk contracts during the playoffs. If it's true.... Awesome.

I have always liked Hudler and was sad to see him go but hell, he would have been stupid to turn down that contract. Anyone that holds that against him is being stupid. BUT since he did go I'm wondering if the loyalty that management has for it's players is damaged a bit and if they may choose to deal him for a "bigger fish", his 2.875 combined with Burt or Williams' 1.5M should buy a pretty decent forward with some size and scoring ability. What are your thoughts and who do you think would be a good fit???

How is Hudler going to Moscow for one or two years then coming back with an already planned out contract to play for the Wings a lack of loyalty?

He went for a couple years of tax-free salary (something the vast majority of players can't even get after taxes in the NHL) and agreed to be a Detroit Red Wing when he returned.

Lack of loyalty would be bolting to the highest bidder in the NHL and never playing in a Wings sweater again.

Dont forget yes Hudler has been away for 1 season but he did play with Z and Flip before, i love Bert but he doesn't exactly play the game like a guy his size should not like his old Nucks days. The line of Bert,Flip,Z has been split up alot to the last couple games also. If Hudler can put up 70pts playing like 80% of the season on the 3rd line then yes i would have him on the 2nd line. Plus this is what we have pre-season for.

He's never came close to that many points and Bert doesn't throw the body much but he's great down low and around the net, something caused by his size. Hudler doesn't have that so you should expect to see him back on the third line and PP next year.

The way Kenny treats his players and is always great to them and Hudler knew he was in a tough spot and could've signed for a bit cheaper without handcuffing Kenny was a bit of a dick move at the least. It wouldn't surprise me if Kenny was a bit less loyal then usual to Hudler in the future. Ditching for tax free money changes nothing, he was in the wings plans, they developed him and made a name for him on their team. Then Huds decides he's worth more and as soon as his team he went too gets in money trouble, he comes crying back. That doesn't exactly scream loyal.

It screams "I have my own needs as well" and Holland understood that since HE SIGNED HIM TO A CONTRACT WITH THE ARBITRATION.

If Holland thought Hudler would be screwing us he wouldn't have bothered with it. You can't f*** yourself over simply because the team is in a tight jam. It isn't Hudler's fault the Wings were in a tough cap situation. That is on Holland and for him to figure out.

People are making such a big deal out of something that was agreed upon by the two parties involved. Holland WANTS him back.

Did I say Hudler lacked loyalty? I can't find anything in that post that would even suggest that. What I said is that possibly the loyalty Wings management has towards their players was damaged. People on this f***in board can't even read or just want want a confrontation. READ THE POST AND PISSOFF I'M GONE...

Williams/Holmstrom/Bertuzzi will be gone and we won't have Samuelsson and Hossa, so I can guarantee you: Hudler will be in the top6.

Wow calm down there tiger.

I misread the loyalty portion, but it still stands. Holland was able to have his cake and eat it too. He got rid of cap space but was able to get Hudler when the cap space opened up.

Your notion is still unfounded.

Obviously really happy about this, but I hope we still retain Bert, Miller and Eaves.

Williams/Holmstrom/Bertuzzi

....

Holmstrom wants to continue playing and Holland wants to keep Bertuzzi on the team.

You can always want.

Kenny obviously wants Hudler here so he's the first priority. Then comes the cap and fitting the right roles. I doubt both Homer and Bert will continue here.

You said that both Holmstrom AND Bertuzzi will be gone. Not gonna happen.

Kenny obviously also wants Bert back, how do you know what Kennys priorities are? Oh but wait he's a small euro something that you love on this team so you assume he's first priority.
