Datsyuk to play in World Championship

Fail

10 years of Pasha and even Wings fans still don't get him or know what to appreciate about him.

Rules...fairness...none of that mattered in that series.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy we have Pavel and I do appreciate him. He's an elite player in every sense of the word, I just was not 100% satisfied with his performance verse San Jose. And to be honest he's not performed up to 100% potential in every playoffs like Zetterberg has.

I understand the nuances of hockey as well as most people, I was not impressed with Datsyuk's board work and physicality, he made a few passing errors and just didn't play with as much confidence as he did in Phoenix series. I orginally attributed it to an injury, but now that's he's apparently healthy I don't know what to attribute his play to other then giving credit to the player he was essentially matched up every shift against(Thornton).

Maybe he's just a unique player and you don't know how to judge his play. The fact he's passive just throws off anyone who isn't able to individually judge a player and realize he's trying when it appears as though he isn't.

I understand that about his game, but continually losing face-offs, puck battles and giving the puck away. Adding to the fact Thornton outscored him leads me to a pretty clear conclusion.

Let's consider the fact SJ was allowed to literally cheat on every faceoff, the rest of that is exaggerated. But hey, what would LGW be without exaggeration?

Datsyuk playing slowly, methodically and passively, is just as effective as Datsyuk skating his ass off. Just that, he's the only one who can do that so we're not used to it. We think hard work is always the way we perceive it. It's one of the easiest things we think we know how to judge, so we judge it. Like rebound control on a goalie. 9/10 people don't have a clue what they're babbling about in regards to that, but it's easy to look at and judge.

I'll bet Kenny is sending him over for the sole purpose of recruiting Kovy.

I hope he does it in his native language.

"Hey....ya...kovy...you...yknow...come play..Wings...we good and you make shot...puck net...garbalosp...no...ya...good shot goal net..want come play?"

"I more pass, you more shoot, work the rebound."

If you go, will you try to get some pics of Pasha for me? I'd be ever so grateful.

I am not surprised he is doing this. Now I have a reason to keep an eye on the results. Go Russia!

He could use the rest, but at the same time, Pav really is one of a kind. He's so immensely skilled that he doesn't need to go 100% head-of-steam all the time. He's a passive player, and thus, games take less out of him. 82 Datsyuk games is probably like 40 out of anyone else. So I dunno if this will really tire him out, esp considering the games might be at a slower pace than the NHL anyway.

Is Rafalski going to play? He might be able to help Team Canada again.

What the frick are you talking about. Ralfi won the award for the best D-man in the olympics. But you are going to critisize him for 1 bad play and ignore all the great plays that he made. Do you watch hockey much?

Do you need Visa to get access to Germany? Is it because Russia is not part of EU?

yeah, i think this is the reason. but i wonder, that such things are not organized well...but think it depends on the short period of time after end of season and the decision to play at the wc. gonna be really mad, if he can not play on sunday. :nono:

Apparently whatever was holding him up was resolved, because according to TSN, he centered a line with Alexander Frolov and Ilya Kovalchuk in the game today, and helped set up the first goal of the game for Russia. So something must be going right.

His 2nd goal was sweet. 2+1 for Pavel today, he's been Russia's best player for sure.

edit: he just score his 3rd on a classic Datsyuk penalty-shot! WOOO!

Edited by dat's sick

just back from the game...really really great ... considering i bought a ticket because of datsyuk, everything was perfect :hehe:

Danmark was not that bad but had no chance against that bunch of high skilled stars. And the russian Goalie made some nice saves

I was a little bit suprised, that Malkin was playing too because i just had no idea, he would join the team. So many great players on one team, russia is my favorite for the title. Really a great game, but only about 5.000 people there to see it - a lot of empty seats but many russian fans celebrating :D

took some pictures - tried to get most of Datsyuk ... (hope it is okay to include some here in this way, if not, please just let me know )
