DRAFT

21st - Quinton Howden, Tyler Pitlick, Evgeny Kuznetsov.

Howden has good numbers in the WHL...McIlrath is impressive but i can't see holland picking him

I had a weird lump in my throat after reading about Fredrik Modin, I've always had the feeling he would be a Wing at one point and time. Maybe he can have a scoring renaissance after Holland gets him for cheap?

Quintin Howden is an interesting suggestion. A big western Canadian forward who can score...

You seem to be forgetting the Wing's are likely to re-sign Bertuzzi :D

I should've added "young and untattooed" to my list :D

i said a long time ago i thought Comrie could be a good fit with the Wings pretty cheap and good offensivly, hes not gonna go out there and be hammering guys or fighting but defintly would help put up points

Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Hudler-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi

Cleary-Comrie-Filppula

Eaves-Abdelkader-Helm

this could work 21pts in 43gp on the oilers is pretty good, only problem with him is he is always getting hurt

I really do wish we had two Datsyuks.

Also, a sub-.5 ppg player with a history of injuries is really not a good idea.

Of more concern for 31-year-old Cleary is that he missed 18 games last season, the second time in the last three years that he's missed that much time.

LOL, right. He really needs to be concerned about his history of having pucks slam into his jaw...

And I hope the wings somehow get McIlraith in the draft

What's his upside? He's a physical stay at home d-man... I'm not so sure that's worth picking in the 1st round on this team given the puck possession style they play. A guy like Stuart plays the same game but is capable of making a good first pass.

Holmgren said he felt it would be “easy” to re-sign his four top restricted free agents: Braydon Coburn, Darroll Powe, Dan Carcillo and Parent. … Though Holmgren did not comment, the Flyers likely won’t re-sign unrestricted free agent Arron Asham.

During the playoffs, Bob McKenzie (on TSN) said that one-by-one teams are learning that the '08 Red Wings got it right: you don't have to spend a lot of money on goaltending to be a success. He was citing the SC finalists as being two more examples of this philosophy.

You don't HAVE to, of course. The fact is though that goalie is still the most important player in the team, maybe even more important than the coach in the playoffs. Blackhawks and Flyers both had very good team in general and no superstar goalies. Detroit hadn't one either. But that just because they've got everything else at such a good level.

The 08 and 09 Wings didn't have a high paid goalie in net. But they did have an experienced Cup winning goaltender who was playing at the top of his game. In 08, he was also a Vezina candidate who had lead the league in GAA, and might have been a finalist had he played more games.

Building from the net out used to be the way to a Cup... now it's more of putting together a core of players starting with a top defenseman and a top forward. Goaltending is secondary; so long as you have a solid defensive unit all you need is a goalie who can make the saves he's supposed to make. Build a solid defensive unit with good scoring and a decent goaltender and you have yourself a contender.

Any idea why the Flyers don't want to sign him and insted keep a guy Carcillo who they even benched in the Finals?

Ultimately, I think that Carcillo has more 'talent'. He made steps this season in terms of toning down his mania (he did have his dumb/crazy moments though) - maybe they're hoping that they can turn him into someone who can pot 10-15 goals, play a solid shift, but still have that wild edge. Bear in mind, he draws a huge number of penalties.

Kinda funny that some posters in Philly's hfboards section want to get rid of Asham and SIGN BRETT LEBDA! Can you believe it? And at the same time, we want to sign Asham and get rid of Lebda. Weird.

Grass is always greener on the other side mentality pretty much applies to most fan bases, generally speaking. This example is no exception.
