Uncle Danny 155 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 Is there a chance we can get Kovalchuk? Oh come on now, for pete's sake... the answer in the other 14k threads asking this question was no, and it's still no. A resounding no. 1 Hockey13Playa reacted to this

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 It all depends on whether the Cap inexplicably goes up 10 million. The Hawks seem to be counting on that so who knows...

Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 if we get Raffi to waive his ntc ask Kovy to take a 2 yr deal for $6m a year and bring up Smith on the d then yes we could get him, as they say never say never but in this case maybe never is the right phrase !! Guest DatsyukianDeke13 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 If Kovalchuk is willing to play for under 3 million then there is a chance. Unfortunately for us, the guy turned down 100 million dollars over ten years (granted the offer was from atlanta). I would be surprised if he signed for any team at under six mil a year....just imagine if we could sign him though...Datysuk + Kovalchuk = unfair.

Deal! I just spoke to Riff Raf and he is willing to waive as long as he doesn't have to play denfence in NJ either.

It could've been done moving some salary around. Let's say Holland didn't re-sign Bert. What's that about a 2mil cap hit? You ship Ozzy to Tampa Bay for a prospect, There's close to another 2mil, and yes Obviously you'd have to get Raffi to waive his no-trade clause and ship him somewhere for a bag of sticks. We would've had to roll with some young D-men like Kindl and Smith, but it probably could've been done had Holland really wanted to do it.

Yzerman191 37 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 People are hoping he'll sign here for $6M per year, eh? That equates to about what, $4M per year after taxes? How about $14M per year, tax free, to play in your home country and be close to family? SKA St. Petersburg of the KHL offered Kovalchuk a $42 million, three-year deal in early June, according to a report in the Russian newspaper Sport-Express. He has not signed the deal. zettie85 106 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 I never would understand why people of his caliber would not want to play the best. In the best league. I have no doubt that if he stays here it will be for more than $6 mil.
