kook_10 1,705 Report post Posted October 24, 2010 Apparently it was Maclean's decision. With $100M on the line, I wouldn't be surprised to see a coaching change before the all-star break.

Chelios57 31 Report post Posted October 24, 2010 I used to be the biggest Kovalchuk fan in the world before he signed with New Jersey. What a terrible team for him to be on (and vise-versa).
Wings_Toledo 233 Report post Posted October 24, 2010 They ought to scratch Brodeur. He is starting to become quite the sieve these days.

cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted October 24, 2010 From New York Times: ...Kovalchuk, who took part in the pregame skate Saturday morning, was not in the Devils’ dressing room after the game. Lou Lamoriello, the team president and general manager, did not accompany MacLean to the postgame news conference. ...

Agree with you mate, used to love the guy, now sadly it seems as though he's destined to throw away what should be the prime years of his carrer due to an unfortunate situation. JoshuaW92 9 Report post Posted October 24, 2010 Unless the coach has some mind-blowingly good reason to bench him, that is just STUPID. With decisions like that, the record the Devils have, and the direction they are going in (getting worse) it will be a short career for this guy as the Devils coach... toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 I heard that he essentially told the coach off and that's why he sat a game. If ture, it doesn't surprise me at all. I've always seen him as a bit of dick/cocky bastard (personality wise) - good offensive player though. I can totally see him clashing with the coach who may be trying to get him to buy into a team game, defensive responsible mindset, etc. and him backlashing against that. That's my biased via of the situation though, mixed in a bit with what I had heard as well. Someone else may simply view it as a player who is struggling and gets benched as a bit of a kick in the butt to get him going.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 Let's also forget the coach is a rookie.
kook_10 1,705 Report post Posted October 25, 2010 (edited) Looks like Big Lou is backing Maclean after all: Devils' GM supports John MacLean Maclean is loved by long time Devils fans so he does carry some weight, especially since basically everyone is wary of Kovy. Rookie head coach or not, he has a long history with the club including one ring as a player and one as an asst coach.
