redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted December 11, 2010 So why so much fan fair for Callahan when we have Teemu Pulkkinen who is running away with the rookie scoring lead in Finland, has 29 points, 7th in total points is +12 and has the 3rd highest ppg in their league? What is Callahan? like 35th? yes because points mean everything. 2 completely different players bro, no point in even comparing them. I agree that we should be excited about teemu, could be a gem if he can stay healthy.
newfy 695 Report post Posted December 11, 2010 yes because points mean everything. 2 completely different players bro, no point in even comparing them. I agree that we should be excited about teemu, could be a gem if he can stay healthy. And Pulk is a guy everyone expected this from, we was projected to go first round until he got hurt. Callahan is a feel good story in a sense and thats why a lot of the posters here really like him

Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 made WJC team Due to his play at pre WJC games. He was played at every forward position in every situation. he'll likely be 13th forward or 4th line grinder. And Pulk is a guy everyone expected this from, we was projected to go first round until he got hurt. Callahan is a feel good story in a sense and thats why a lot of the posters here really like him And he's American It's rare for the Wings to draft an American who can play some good hockey. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 I'm most excited for Pulu (what the Fins call him apparently) than I am Callahan, but there's nothing wrong for being excited about both. if you think Pulu is being undervalued, start a thread about him? newfy 695 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Cant wait to see how he looks on the big stage. Hopefully we see his agitating side all tournament and he doesnt try to be a finesse goal scorer.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 The 5-foot-11, 175-pound native of Whittier, Calif., is known as an agitator who will throw down the gloves with anyone, as evidenced by his 45 fighting majors and 415 penalty minutes over the past two and half seasons. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Each one has its strengths, but its obvious that better players (IE the ones who go on to have hall of fame level careers) come from the QMJHL. The WHL produces a lot of 3-4th line energy guys, and while I like that, you can't argue that player for player, the QMJHL has had more top line players come out of it. The 2010 draft. First 10 picks. 5-OHL 4-WHL 1-Finland (First Q player taken 13th, no other 1st round Q players) The 2009 draft. First 10 picks. 3-OHL 4-WHL 3-Sweden (First Q player taken 14th, First Canadian Q player taken 25th) The 2008 draft. First 10 picks. 7-OHL 1-WHL 1-Russia 1-US College (No Q players taken in the first round) The 2007 draft. First 10 picks, 3-OHL 4-WHL 1-QMJHL 1-NAHL 1-BCHL (First Canadian Q player taken 19th) The 2006 draft. First 10 picks. 1 from damn near every league in the world. (5 Q players ntaken in the first round) Past 10 drafts: Number 1 picks 2010 Taylor Hall - OHL 2009 John Tavares - OHL 2008 Steve Stamkos - OHL 2007 Patrick Kane - OHL 2006 Erik Johnson - NTDP 2005 Sidney Crosby - QMJHL 2004 Alex Ovechkin - Russia 2003 MAF - QMJHL 2002 Rick Nash - OHL 2001 Ilya Kovalchuk - Russia OHL - 5 QJMHL - 2 Russia - 2 NTDP - 1 The empirical data doesn't lie. The Q isn't producing high quality players at the moment (past half decade). Sean Couturier should be a top flight player, but only time will tell. You can't really refute the data. newfy 695 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Has he ever tried to play a finesse goal scorer's game? No but hes never not played in the WHL where fighting and agitating is a huge part of the game. International tourneys are a much different style then what they play in the dub so I hope he doesn't soften up on those Euros
sputman 1,268 Report post Posted December 27, 2010 mitch in the lineup tonight? i haven't seen or heard of him and i've watched all of the 1st so far. pulkkinen has been busy, though. lots of playing time and playing point on the powerplay. took a penalty while back-checking that led to the lone US goal in the 1st.
