A brand new Flyer

He's young, so maybe they could mold him into a steve ott?

Maybe. Carcillo has definitely toned it down since the 07-08 year when he piled up 324 penalty minutes with Phoenix. At the time, he took a ton of unscrupulous penalties, but the Coyotes were far from playoff contention at the time (if I remember correctly), and Gretzky loved him, so he got playing time. He probably won't hit 300 penalty minutes again, but he is still a fireball out there. I'd take a chance on him over the summer if it was for under a mil.

1st and a 3rd? Wow, Burke actually won a trade :o

I think it was a win for both sides. Those are going to be late picks anyway. Flyers are aiming for the Cup and right now they have three solid d-pairings, three solid lines that can create offense, one very good checking line and a good/decent goalie tandem. Picks don't matter that much when you're going for the Cup.

I don't think that was an overpayment, but I do think they could've gone after some old cheap veteran forward and not pay for potential if they're looking only at this season. Because now they'll have to deal maybe Zherdev on the deadline or make deals in the draft to fit under the cap. They'll also need to re-sign Leino.

Good addition for the Flyers. Insurance so he doesn't beat Michael Leighton with a wrister in the Finals.

Really, though. Strong pick up. Would not have minded seeing Versteeg in a Wings jersey.

Meh... that depends on how good they draft.

Well, obviously. 7th round picks can turn into superstars, and #1 overall picks can be complete busts. Nevertheless a 1st and a 3rd seems like a massive overpayment.

Especially in the cap world where it is absolutely crucial to have a steady stream of prospects coming through to replace those lost through Free Agency. This isn't the early 2000s when the likes of Philly + Detroit were perennial buyers at the trade deadline and able to replace lost picks + prospects with free agents.

I would maybe agree if Versteeg was older but he isn't. This trade is a very late first and very late third and they got a very good, young guy who will probably be a consistent 25 goal scorer especially on a good team.

If you get a consistent 25 goal scorer with a late first rounder that is a very good pick. If you get a guy who is anything more then a third liner witha third round pick youre doing very good.

This isnt a bad trade at all, definitely not overpayment

So word on the street is Burke is going to trade the draft picks from the Versteeg deal. Wow! If Burke trades another 1st round pick, I think Leafs fans should run him out of town!

Maybe he's looking at another deal with Philly, to trade those picks back for Dan Carcillo :o
