LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted March 23, 2011 Flipped the switch? More like desperate fans grasping for straws. I hope, just like everyone else, for a long Cup run, but realistically this team is going nowhere giving up 4+ goals a game... After these playoffs, this team needs a major shake up. Lidstrom can make up his mind what he wants to do, but it better involved yet another pay cut, and if you are not named Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Stuart, Abdelkader or Helm, then your job is not secure. Doesn't mean you'll be gone, just means keep a eye open in the back of your head...

Time will tell if it was an actual switch season-wise, but the switch on the game was barely enough to muster a point. Still was a good effort just need it from the start. If this is LeftWinger's prediction (yet another LW prediction of sucky Wings playoffs, how surprising), looks like this team is getting at least to the conference finals! HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted March 25, 2011 Flipped the switch? Yeah, I think the wings flipped the switch all right....the one wired up to the crazy part of my brain. For gawd's sake boys .... leave that switch alone and flip the "STFU" switch to "on". Geez.
Guest stinky fish taco Report post Posted March 25, 2011 the only switch this team will be flipping is the lights to their locker room after the inevitable 1st round exit.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted March 25, 2011 (edited) the only switch this team will be flipping is the lights to their locker room after the inevitable 1st round exit. Wings have their fair share of first round exits, however, seeing posts like these every season aren't really surprising either. I see the glass as half full with what most have which a rather even keel plane of cautious optimism, you see it as a jar half full of crap with a floating doody in it. You can keep your jar. Thankfully some of us don't see a reason to constantly tear down the things we're a fan of and enjoy watching, which seems to be a rather common theme from you. I've seen "the switch" quite often, especially in the post-cap era. Teams that go all out during the regular season nowadays unsurprisingly tire out quickly and are unable to cope with a long and physically enduring playoff run. San Jose Sharks anyone? If the Wings get healthy for a change, they breeze through the first round. Edited March 25, 2011 by Shoreline 1 HankthaTank reacted to this

But hey, it's the safest prediction to make because they get to do the "I told you so" if it happens and if they advance they can say, "meh, 2nd round exit is no different." Keep on rocking chicken littles.

Keep on rocking chicken littles. I'm with you. It's easy to be the "naysayer" and a pessimist. It's easy to say they are going to do bad cause it's a win/win for them. If they lose in the 1st...or 2nd, they get to say the "told ya so" like hank said. They win, they get to be all excited and I was wrong but at least they win! I just think the team is missing a few links in the chain. Hopefully, they can find those links with the resting some of the guys are doing. I'm just scared the resting is going to make them a little rusty and if that happens, the 1st round exit could look a little more likely especially if we draw Trashville in the 1st. LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted March 31, 2011 ...uh, flipped the switch, the wrong way... Including the "switch" game, they are 1-4. Beginning to think that 100 points may be more of a challenge than once predicted... How about in the off season, we flip the switch on some players? Yesterday was embarrassing! They owe each and every one of those fans that went there an apology AND a refund! And it should come out of each players and coaches pay! I am so glad we signed Franzen to a forever contract! Damn is he sucking! I am beginning to expect more out of Hudler than Franzen anymore, and most the time we get it!

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 31, 2011 I absolutely love that this thread got bumped today. Humor at its finest. That said, last night was pretty worthless. I watched the first half of the game at my parents' house then had to go home, so I missed the second. The score was 6-2, and they had given up somewhere in the mid-20s in shots, ...so I figured the game clock was just running slow or something maybe anyway. I did notice something last night I actually hadn't noticed before. I had put Joey MacDonald as a serviceable goaltender who's solid in all areas. He has always been very good at taking in the first shot and stopping the play dead. Some of you may recall I wanted the Wings to trade Legace after the lockout, while he still had value, and bring in Joey as the backup, and that 'absorption' ability is particularly why. Regardless, an obvious weakness that I hadn't noticed became hugely apparent last night. Joey has trouble covering the top corners; the Blues took particular advantage of this. Joey Mac is fine backup and will pry get some offers. Most modern goalies cant cover the high corners cause they gone down so quick. Unless you are over 6'2" you are gonna have a decent opening. Din758 371 Report post Posted March 31, 2011 One thing I noticed last night was how great MacDonald was able to handle, and dump the puck by himself multiple times. Normally it scares me when goalies try that (see Ozzie) but last night he looked in control and knew where to put it and when to time it. Solid play by Mac. Doing this causes fires, possible death or injury, imminent possession by Satan, or visits by a naked Gary Bettman. Thank you. evilzyme 769 Report post Posted April 1, 2011 (edited) DETROIT -- Their 10-3 loss tothe St. Louis Blues on Wednesday was alarming, but the Detroit Red Wings aren’t panicking. They also are not dismissing it simply as one bad night. Despite having the third-best record in the WesternConference, the Red Wings realize they must tighten up defensively (they rank21st in the NHL in goals against) and be better at home (10-12-4 since Dec. 1)with the playoffs less than two weeks away. Their sense of urgency tocorrect the problems is increasing with only five games remaining. "Everyone in here wasembarrassed walking out," defenseman Niklas Kronwall said. "You don’t want to go anywhere, you don’t want to be seen anywhere, you feel so bad aboutthe way you played. "If we keep playing likethis, it’ll be a short run for us in the playoffs. The work ethic hasn’t beenthere, the execution hasn’t been there." Coach Mike Babcock skated theplayers hard in Thursday’s practice, calling it "penance day." Hesaid players and coaches didn’t do their job and are anxious to"flush" the game. "Compete and work, that’s all it was," Babcock said. "We felt we were getting better and better and better and then to have that happen ... if there’s not asense of urgency, there’s a problem. We’re a proud franchise that’s been very good for a long period of time and we plan on staying good. The only way you stay good is if your competition level is at the highest point." Several players said it was awake-up call, the kind of performance that grabs their attention more than a tight loss would. The Red Wings visit Nashville on Saturday to face a team that has won four consecutive games against them.Kronwall said they must play with more passion and pay attention to details. "It’s been too sloppy. We haven’t been executing in our own zone," Kronwall said. "Get back to the puck, win battles, make the first good pass out of our zone. We have to do a better job in the neutral zone. We have to do a better job in the offensive zone as well. There’s a lot of things we can improve on." Goaltender Jimmy Howard willstart against the Predators. He missed two games with a sprained left shoulder, but saw what troubled the team Wednesday. "Stop the carousel ridesin our own zone, where it seems like teams get wound up and they just startcircling," Howard said. "(If) we just stay in spots, talk it out alittle more in the defensive zone, communication will eliminate a lot of guys doubling up on coverages." Players said they must stop trying to do each other’s job. "On the ice when you get a little spread out, there’s miscommunication and some breakdowns in coverage and holes are created," Mike Modano said. "And then everyone tries to back up that guy and it kind of snowballs." Nicklas Lidstrom said the keyto success can be as simple as getting the puck out of your zone and into theoffensive zone. "It’s not always looking for the perfect pass," Lidstrom said. I like this article a lot. Not that we haven't heard this before this season but honestly, when everyone sees it infront of their face due to a blowout things can change. I like how they acknowledge that they are so weak defensively and I LOVE that fact that Howard is even pointing out their mistakes. Modano hit another great point on the head.
