Just so everyone knows... this isn't a "nomination" for the Norris trophy, these 3 players are the "finalists", meaning they were the top 3 vote-getters. Voters choose 5 defensemen and rank them 1-5. A first-place vote gets 10 points, 2nd gets 7, 3rd gets 5 points, 4th 3, and 5th place gets 1 point. The points are tallied and the top 3 are announced as finalists. After the awards ceremony, The Hockey News used to (and I'm guessing still does?) publish the entire vote/points list for all NHL awards.

Ruslan Salei on Norris: “The three finalists should be Nick Lidstrom, Nick Lidstrom and Nick Lidstrom.”

He might not be the best defenseman, but damn do I love Ruslan Salei!!

not necessarily true, a LOT of the writers that have votes put more stock in +/- than they should... there is a very good chance Weber is going to win... the best thing Nick has going for him is the nostalgia factor since his career is in its twilight, whereas Shea Weber's is just entering its prime and some voters may vote for Nick just on the premise of "well, Weber will have plenty of upcoming years to win it, lets give it to the vet"

The Best thing? Yeah those 62pts or 16 goals the fact that he night in and night out is rarely out of position, none of that helped.

and twilight... well don't tell Nick that because judging by the way he played this year, he doesn't know it yet.

ok people, lets remember, norris goes to best overall defenseman, not who has the most points. the mentions of vishnovsky and yandle are a complete joke.

And you thinking that Visnovsky shouldn't be mentioned is also a complete joke considering Chara is up there for his name and that +33 which is attributed to how awesome Tim Thomas was this year. Visnovsky had 68 freaking points and here is your DEFENSIVE stat. Blocked 116 shots to Chara's 111 in the exact same amount of contests so not saying 5 shots makes him the obvious nominee but it truly doesn't make it a "complete joke" to put the guy as a finalist at least. Points shouldn't put him up there but it's not that cut and dry as you make it seem.

Yandle blocked 103, Brian Campbell blocked 101, and Lidstrom blocked 92. Kronwall had 37 points and 129 blocks. Maybe he should have been nominated instead of Chara or Weber?

Nah, it's ok though, I was only trying to point out the fact it wasn't that ludicrous for Visnovsky to be talked about anyway.
