VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted June 28, 2011 Some names on there are good, but you guys are overlooking something: We don't need bottom level role players. We've got an abundance of those, and they are a strength for this team. The team was lacking a top 6 forward last season. So it'd be nice to get some of those guys, but they don't really fill a need for this team, and we'd be using money that could go toward the top six scorer we need. With the FA pool lacking this year, I'm throwing my name into the pool! There's a good market for 30-yr-old, 5'9", grinders with bad knees, right?

We need a top 6 scorer. This has been said since before the season even ended. Holland has said this is his goal (along with a defenseman). The team may very well sign a bottom 6 guy, too, but the focus is on a top 6 guy since we sorely lacked one other than Datsyuk and Zetterberg last season. Having a consistent second line scorer will make this team the threat they weren't last year.

Having a consistent second line scorer will make this team the threat they weren't last year. Holland said that the forward group is 'pretty much set.' It was Babs who said that we could use another top 6 forward to make things easier. Kenny said that we need a top 4 dman to replace Rafalski whether it be via trade or UFA. Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted June 28, 2011 Although it usually happens that doesn't mean technically or logically yes. Logically, if they had offered a contract, it would have been at least 5% more than their previous ELC. Sensibly it wouldn't make sense to not offer a slightly higher contract to a skillful RFA. So it seems these teams just want nothing to do with these players, hence them not negotiating contracts with them. We need a top 6 scorer. This has been said since before the season even ended. Having a consistent second line scorer will make this team the threat they weren't last year. Holland said the top 9 is good. Babcock stated he wants another top is forward to play with. If our only argument for a top six forward is because the head coach said he wants another one, then you should take a class in head coaching 101. You'll learn that you're a happier coach when you have more weapons at your disposal, whether you need them or not.

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted June 28, 2011 (edited) kenny has to land stewart. big young power forward with tons of potential. I like Stewart too, but lets not make him out to be more than he is, this is the 2nd time that his team has elected to NOT qualify him and these are both teams that needed scorers... there may be more to him behind the scenes that we do not want (locker room cancer, partier, etc...) and ALSO, 39 points is his career high averaging 15 min a night... I wouldn't mind him coming here, but lets keep things in perspective... Edited June 28, 2011 by stevkrause

But at the same time it would defintely be worth inquiring as to what money he may want. More often than not you can get these kinds of guys on cheap 1 year deals. Then you see how it pans out.
