Brian Burke should be arrested of grand larceny

Even if Lombardi never played an NHL game again, getting Franson and getting rid of the horrible Lebda contract was clearly black magic... now that Lombardi was cleared AND will be ready for the start of the season, this is shaping out to be one of the most lopsided trades I can remember...

I'm not a huge Burke fan here either, but you gotta give it to the guy, this was one HELL of a trade...

I don't know. The swiping of both Chris Stewart AND Kevin Shattenkirk by St Louis from Colorado has to be another pretty big bit of evidence of grand larceny.

To STL:

Stewart, Shattenkirk, 2nd rounder

to COL:

E Johnson (bust), McClement (career 3rd/4th liner), and a 1st

But getting anything more than a used bag of pucks and a lukewarm beer for Lebderp is a win.

The problem with the St Louis/Colorado deal, is that one side isn't mentally competent (Col), so really, it's like stealing from a handicap kid... look at all the deals Col has made in the last 2 years - their management has clearly been eating paint chips, and lead based ones at that...

Burke just flat out fleeced another competant GM with black magic, jedi mind tricks and/or blackmailed photoshopped pics of goat/donkey play... and that is much more impressive to me, than taking the toy from the kid drooling all over himself with a Leggo up his nose...

Oh no, now you did it. Somebody is going to get all serious and say that you are "disrespecting" handicap people. Boy I hate that word..

Look out, Bruins, Caps, Flyers and Penguins, here comes Franson and Lombardi!

Good move to clear space... but really did it make them a better team? Not now, and not likely later either. They would actually have to still use the money WISELY.

Burke can't do that with a basement dweller.

It's sad... I actually hesitated before I posted it too, because of that... but then thought "what the hell, if someone can't laugh at things and doesn't have a sense of humor, I don't need to appeal to them anyway"

Our world would be a better place if people learned to laugh more...

:)

Strongly disagree... it doesn't even have to do with the money, Franson could be a top 4, possibly top 2 dman if used right and Lombardi is a FANTASTIC 3rd line center/pk/faceoff specialist (if truely healthy)... both players will fill very important roster spots for Toronto

HOw'd you get neg'd for this? This, in my eyes, is even more lopsided.

I wish I wasn't on my phone, so I could plus it to even it out... I've stopped trying to understand the plus/minus scores people give on here...

I don't get it either most of the time. I gave it a plus to help even it back out. Don't know why it would've gotten negged unless Lebda is a member here.

For someone like Burke, just based on the amount of trades he makes, chances are eventually he was going to make a decent one.

He did basically gut the whole Tor team when he was hired, then traded away the only benefit of gutting your team, your next 2 first round draft picks.

Those picks became Tyler Seguin, Jared Knight and Dougie Hamilton.

That just seems like alot for a player who already has a history of cancer and injury problems at so young a age.

Also, to smash Burke a little more, Nashville was looking to dump salary before arbitration with Weber, so it seems more despiration to get rid of Lombardi.

Combined with Franson it saved them 3.8m, more than half of the 7.5m awarded to Weber and most of what they offered him, 4.5m.

Also Lombardi is on contract for next year when they really need money and Franson is a RFA and due a huge raise compared to the 800k he is making now, probly around 3-3.5m.

I understand Nashville wants to keep their dmen core, but that starts with building a winning team and the way I saw it this was their last year to do that before starting to lose key players.

Agree. Despite all the moves Burke has done, Toronto still doesn't have a superstar, which is a must in the Cap era, and they're 2-3 years away from having one (assuming Burke doesn't trade away his picks again). The last two drafts were Burke's chance to get one, and his time has passed. All the other teams around them in the standings are leaving them behind when it comes to young talent. The Leafs will finish 12th in the Conference.

Edit: Any other city, Burke would have been run out of town for the Kessel deal.

This topic was in regards to one specific trade... can we stay on topic here? This by no means makes him a great GM, or even a good one, so let's not go down that road, but the fact is, this specific trade was a fleecing

I didn't get that trade either, what the heck were the Preds thinking. I mean, Lebda.... Come onnnn.

the only other thing I can think of is that whole "Ex-Wings that sucked here and then all of a sudden score a hat trick against us" thing, where Nashville would give up a roster spot to get that.

I would love Lebda on my team... literally, my team, my beer league adult league... however, if I were an NHL GM, no way...

First Lebda would need to play... there's already a lot of talk than Nashville may buy him out... I honestly don't see him winning a roster spot if they go off skill and ability alone, with all the young, skilled dmen they have in their system...

They already bought him out.

As for this deal, the only thing I can think is Nashville really wants this team to fail, they just have to keep lowering the bar because Trotz manages somehow to make them competitive season after season.

Well there it is... when did it happen? All I had read to date was they were thinking about it... Trotz needs to get out of there and go somewhere that actually wants to win...

Mid-August apparently. I was looking on capgeek and they had him listed as bought out. Then when I looked it up several other sources made reference to it.

It is weird how no major hockey media had reported it though.
