rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 Thought this was a little quirky...NHL.com posted the starting rosters for all 30 clubs today. The Wings roster has an Andrew Miller listed, which is obviously Drew Miller, but I never knew his name was actually Andrew. Despite that, I didn't know he was drafted in 1991 (he wasn't)....but the player the post links to was and originally by the Wings as well. http://www.nhl.com/i...s.htm?id=594687 http://www.nhl.com/i....htm?id=8458791
Travis 576 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 I don't think his name is Andrew, I think there was probably a query error that pulled Andrew Miller instead of the appropriate Miller.
rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 I thought the same thing until I looked it up. According to his Wiki page his name is Andrew. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drew_Miller
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 He was originally listed as "Andrew Miller" by the NHL, the same way Evgeni Nabokov was listed as "John Nabokov" because of a stupid secretary. Dan Cleary has been officially listed as Dan, Daniel, and Danny at various times throughout his career. No idea when it changed, except that it was before he was waived by Tampa Bay. rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) For what it's worth, I know Cleary actually goes by Danny. The whole 'Dan' thing came about somehow and I've read it bothers him. So don't call him Dan if you meet him. LOL Either way, the Miller they link to is not the correct profile. Apparently. P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 I remember him in Anaheim as Drew. There was also a fella named Niklas Kronvall.

rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 Drew and Andrew are the same name guys... One is just shorthand... That is pretty obvious, but that doesn't mean everyone named Drew is short for Andrew. 1 Travis reacted to this
Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) A few names shocked me when looking at these lists: Brian McGrattan made the Ducks roster? :carrot: D.J. King made the Capitals roster? Zack Stortini made the Preds roster? Edited October 6, 2011 by Bring Back The Bruise Bros

He went by John because he wanted people to be able to pronounce his name.
BigWillieStyle 662 Report post Posted October 7, 2011 There was also a fella named Niklas Kronvall. Whose name suddenly became KronWall. Yet his younger brother Steffan ( or Staffan) remained a Kronvall for a few more years until magically his name changed to KronWall. I'm assuming that this is a translation issue from Swedish to English, but wonder if that could be problematic with a passport and work visa. Can anyone out there enlighten me a little more as it keeps me up at night wondering. Well,.. that and vodka.

Can anyone out there enlighten me a little more as it keeps me up at night wondering. Well,.. that and vodka. May 9, 2008 - Associated Press: The Red Wings defenceman with the 55 on his back is Niklas Kronwall, and not Niklas Kronvall as the NHL indicates. The league uses Kronvall in its printed stats and on game scorescheets. "In my passport, it's with a 'V,"' he explains. "We never bothered to change it (because) you have to go through paperwork and all that, but our family has been using a 'W' for four generations now. "We just never bothered changing the passport. All my papers and bank accounts back home, it's all with a 'W.' I guess the NHL goes by the passport." It's Kronwall over his dressing room stall and in printed team material. "It doesn't really matter to me," says the hard-hitting Swede. Edited October 7, 2011 by P.
