I could see Stevie Y pulling the trigger on this one, but not Detroit. The team is showing up to play with conks and he hasn't been all that bad, infact I think he can hold his own when the defense doesn't hang em out to dry.

I tend to agree. A month ago or so and maybe the Wings take a bite.

Id be hesitant to shake thigs up the way they have been going for us but this would benanrisk that would make us a stronger playoff contender in the long run. However i agree with the above post that he doesnt clear through 29 teams so who cares about the above statement...

I'm fine with Conklin as a backup, as long as Jimmy is healthy. Conklin hasn't been great this year (I liked him a lot more in his previous stint with Wings) but the team can win games with him in the net and that's OK. Nittymaki could be a good depth signing, but there's no apparent need for that, and there are teams in dire need of better goaltending as of now (read Blackhawks or Tampa to name just two).

I hear Philly could use another one, they say the merry-go-round is starting to slow down.

I'd like Nittymaki, but not for 2 million. That's for a deadline move. Plus, he's been pretty vocal about sitting on the bench...that really wouldn't change much in Detroit. Steve will pick him up. The Hawks don't even have a chance at getting him off waivers...they're in 7th place while Tampa is languishing in the bottom of the league. Make it happen, Steve!!

Very strange.

I'd say it's nearly a 100% certainty that he would not clear re-entry waivers.

At only half the salary, and possibly later in the year so his cap hit would be even less? I'd say you're right.

That's if he even gets to re-entry waivers, though...

From San Jose Mercury News.

...

“You have to ask Mr. Wilson,” Niittymaki said of Sharks GM Doug Wilson. “We’ll see. I know they’ve been working hard to find a place for me to play. It’s probably not as easy as it sounds because I’ve been out with the (hip) surgery and I’ve only played games in the minors.”

...

...

There were quotes attributed to him on the Internet Wednesday from the Finnish media where Niittymaki appeared to be mildly critical of the Sharks. Niittymaki said this morning he believes something got lost in the translation.

“You can write something positively or negatively,” he said. “I haven’t seen the translation yet. I’m a little bit unhappy about this because I know (the Sharks) are doing everything they can, and I appreciate that. I understand that it’s probably not easy to move me. That’s what I was trying to say, and I don’t know what happened with the translation.”

...

This kind of thing, again? That never happened with Cammalleri.

He doesn't seem to be in denial over the situaton. Worcester: possible, but doubtful.
