SimonSin 192 Report post Posted December 16, 2013 Chicago looks unbeatable right now. Yeah they took a little beating in Toronto the other night but I'm talking about a 7 game series. If they stay healthy I really don't see anyone beating them. It would be their 3rd cup in 4 years. It took Detroit 9 years to win four. I would hate to see them win again honestly. They can score at will, great defense, they have guys that will fight and Crawford (I know he's injured at the moment) is super solid in net. They look unbeatable when they're playing their best. rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted December 16, 2013 LA looked like Kings during their last east coast swing. A hungry team that’s never won, like St Louis or San Jose maybe? No one in the east, that’s for sure.

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted December 16, 2013 Their defense and goaltending hasn't been very good actually. They score insane amounts of goals but also are among the worst in Goals Allowed. Also I saw a breakdown of their schedule so far and it was very easy, against playoff teams their record is mediocre. So the answer would be yes. In the West I think a team like St Louis or maybe the Sharks or Kings could take them down. But they are the reigning cup champs and are one of the 2-3 most likely teams to win it this year. SimonSin 192 Report post Posted December 16, 2013 Could anyone stop the 2005-2006 Red Wings? I knew someone was going to bring this up. Yeah I guess you're right but was that team better than the Hawks of 2014? They are currently on their 2nd cup in four years. You're right, my bad. I was never good at math, LoL. Would be their 3rd cup in five years. Thanks for correcting that.

marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted December 16, 2013 The west is just scary. Has been for a while, but even more so this year. Can't imagine what the doom and gloom would be like in these forums if the Wings were over there and on the outside looking in lol
St. Michael (the Red Wing) 422 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) They are scary good right now. After our lackluster performance again last night I tuned into them and the Kings. They owned the Kings big time and LA has been on a roll lately. Maybe the Kings had a off night oh well but the Hawks took it to them. I can see the Hawks making it to the Conference finals if not the Cup final. Again. Makes me wanna puke sadly. BadgerBob 297 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 I'm hoping the Sharks win the West. Can't stand the Hawks (especially Kane and Shaw) one bit.
joshy207 156 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 Wings won 4 in 11 years (not counting the lockout year of 2004-05). '97, '98, '02, '08. Chicago looks pretty strong. Pittsburgh or Boston could put up a fight in the final, if either one gets there... maybe Tampa or Montreal, MAYBE? Doubtful though. The West is pretty tough, so it's not like Chicago would have an easy road to the Cup. 8 teams are within 12 points of them.
frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 There are enough teams that can and should stop them. Especially the St. Louis Blues they are big, strong and their top pairing is playing amazing. I do not care enough who wins the west but hopefully its not them, I really do not want to see them repeating as cup champions and equalize the impressive accomplishment of winning back to back stanley cups but oh boy the west is unreal this year, we would be behind the pack right now

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 They said the Titanic was unsinkable. And they said more or less the same about roughly half a dozen Red Wings teams. (Hello 1996!) But, honestly, the Chicago Blackhawks probably repeat. They are just a ludicrously good hockey team. I mean, I could see one of the other top teams taking them down. (Hell, we almost did it.) But they're the clear favorites right now, no question.

What kills me is that we almost took it to the hawks in the Poffs last year with the Detroit griffins. We now have IMO a slightly better roster and can't win against bottom feeder teams. 1 St. Michael (the Red Wing) reacted to this

hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 18, 2013 They are good, for sure, but their D and goaltending is nowhere near where it was last year and their special teams are horrendous. Their record is slightly better than how they've been playing, while they've been winning a ton of games, they've also been involved in a lot of really tight ones, and have blown some leads against teams they had no business doing poorly against. That said, they are still pretty darn good. I think a team like LA or STL would have a good chance at taking them in a series this playoffs. Sure don't want to see them do well at all... 1 frankgrimes reacted to this

Agreed and I'm starting to think the Anaheim Ducks would be capable of doing the same, but man Pietrangelo - Bouwmeester (spelling?) versus Keith - Seabrook are two pairing I'd kill to see them in a winged wheel. St. Michael (the Red Wing) 422 Report post Posted December 18, 2013 I don't see where the Blackhawks defense or goaltending areas are a problem. Things were said badly about them last year and look how that turned out. I'm sure they can be beaten but it's not going to be easy. Too much firepower up front. As mentioned yes going through the playoffs this year in the West will extremely difficult for every team that makes it. As of right now I still think the Hawks are the top team in the West and of course still the Stanley Cup champs.
