Guest Playmaker Report post Posted April 12, 2014 Any loss is disappointing, but these games happen. They had a ton of chances, just couldn't capitalize. I find myself not wanting to wish for one team over another because it never ends well when the Wings get the team I think is the "easier" team. 3 Hockeymom1960, Dabura and ash11 reacted to this

The Bruins are a machine obviously, but I'm not sure the Pens are that much "worse" and they are mostly healthy now.

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 (edited) Any loss is disappointing, but these games happen. They had a ton of chances, just couldn't capitalize. I find myself not wanting to wish for one team over another because it never ends well when the Wings get the team I think is the "easier" team. Yeah, I agree with all of this. I think the inability to capitalize isn't like "puck luck" where they get a free pass. Usually, failing on 700 chances means your head is up your ass, and I think that was mostly the case tonight. But, given our youth, it's remarkable that this hasn't been a big issue this season. We've had nights like this one, but every team does. You'd like for this to not be your second-to-last regular season game with something important on the line, but whatever. Maybe they'll learn from it. I do think wanting the Pens as much as people do is asking for trouble. And when I think about Crosby, Malkin, Neal...and Kindl, Lashoff, Howard...and our legendary ability to make so-so goalies look unbeatable...that could very easily be a clean sweep for the bad guys, same as Boston. The way things have gone this season, where the worst that could happen, happens, and we think it's the end of the world...and now we look back on it and realize that it probably had to unfold that way...maybe it's the same thing here. We had to lose tonight, because we have to face the Bruins, because that's The Plan, or something. Edited April 12, 2014 by Dabura
Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 Also, if you think about it, this team doesn't necessarily know what to do with a "meaningless" game. Like Babs said, we've been fighting for our playoff lives for almost the whole season. We were definitely due for a big letdown. This was the ultimate trap game. I'm just rationalizing now. 1 wingsfan4795 reacted to this

Danielsm 244 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 The Red Wings were pretty dominant all game. Lot's of small errors, but they also had the most chances. Our players need to start burying these pucks.
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 Seriously all will be forgiven with Franzen if he goes on a tear in the playoffs. He's about due Nobody will ever understand this guy it baffles me

Like Babs said, we've been fighting for our playoff lives for almost the whole season. We were definitely due for a big letdown. This was the ultimate trap game. I'm just rationalizing now. It would be a trap game if they were bad, they wernt. Had tons of chances, should have won. Not like they crapped the bed and got dominated all game. Wasn't a letdown at all IMO. Its like people forget we actually play against other NHL teams and can lose? Ward was great.
joesuffP 1,746 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 Deserved to win against the pens too. Shouldn't have even went to OT. Penalty kill is killing us
wingsfan4795 552 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 People act like this is how it's going to be in the playoffs and we're going to get run over. Are you honestly surprised that there was a slight letdown after a full month's sprint to the playoffs? They're going to be fine, just think about the last few weeks, not last night
wings87 1,290 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 I didn't get a chance to watch the game, although judging by the score thank god I didn't. The only thing I'm curious about, is how did Pav look?
wings_fanatic 677 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 I don't like franzem with datsyuk at all I'm glad babs changed that but I don't like Abby with pav either. IMO you play the best player on the team with pav to get him going. Nyquist had speed, more skill and wayyyyyyy more effort then franzen. Let's get the lines right babs! Nyquist-pav-alfie Jurco-sheahan-tatar Abby-legwand-franzen Glendening-helm-miller IMO this is the best way to spread the talent in the playoffs. I think alfie is going to be really good for us in the playoffs and I have no freakin idea why franzem is on the point on the first pop unit instead of Alfie that's gotta change! Fact is franzen is slow, and lazy so a 3rd line role will be fine for him and it let's babs play the kids more minutes along with pav and Alfie and we can see that teams can't contain the kids they just have so much energy. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

I like those line combos. I think jurco/sheahan/tatar were playing really well together. Plus, the way Goose has been shooting having Pavs set him up would be beautiful!!! Franzen is way too streaky for my liking. If he would bring more to the table like block shots, make some big hits, or just play good defense I would say put him in the top 6. wings87 1,290 Report post Posted April 12, 2014 Really good and dragging around two bums for wingers. I hate-hate-hate Abby on the top line. I think if it was Nyquist on Pavs wing, it would help Mule get moving. Oh, and did I mention that I hate Abby on the 1st line?
