Jersey Wing 1,521 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) I saw from HistoricDetroit.com on Twitter today is the anniversary of the opening of Olympia Stadium 88 years ago today. Anyone have any memories to share? Cool Olympia pic at the link, you'll also find out what the first ever event was and ironically it's a term for old time playoff hockey. https://twitter.com/HistoricDET/status/654674184895774720 Edited October 15, 2015 by Jersey Wing

GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 (edited) Not sure how many posters we have old enough to have attended a game there. If only GordieSid&Ted didn't get banned. Wingers17 8 Report post Posted October 15, 2015 I saw a couple of games there and saw the Harlem Globetrotters there. A great place to see a hockey game.

GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted October 16, 2015 I believe he's in his 40's so chances are slim that he saw a game there...Wasn't it your fault that he got banned? Not at all. I only had a beef with him one time my first year here. After that we were good.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted October 19, 2015 My uncle used to usher at the Olympia after he came home from WWII. My grandparents' neighbour was in charge of that and would call my uncle when he needed an extra person. John would do it for extra money. Unfortunately I never got to hear his stories as he passed away at age 19. My dad was only 6 at the time. My aunt remembers that he once ushered at a hockey game and had what my aunt referred to as a "delightful" conversation with Henry Ford.
