I'd be ok with Howard/Tatar/2nd.  Don't really need Elliot, so maybe ditch the 2nd?

Unrelated note:   CAPFRIENDLY.COM ISN'T WORKING!!!! UGH DON'T TAKE ANOTHER ONE AWAY!!!!!

We dont need Elliot, but he is a UFA at the end of the season, and without trading him Calgary would be holding 3 goalies. Plus its a way for Calgary to dump salary on us to offset Howard.

Plus, if we take Elliot maybe we can ship him out at the deadline to a team like LA.

5.25 million per year is the salary of a high-end center? Maybe 10 years ago. You don't get a high-end center in this league this day and age for anything less than 8 million per.  He is a guy who will spend his career as a #2 or 3 center. Nothing more, nothing less. He is Filppula-esque in every way, salary included.

I thought he made at least $6 million. My bad. Also, by high end I didn't know you meant elite and not just a step above middle level.

Hamilton would be an amazing add for this team. Same as Trouba, he's the type of player you have to be willing to overpay for. I'd give up a significant amount for a defenseman of that caliber. What exactly did you read from Friedman though kip? The only thing I seen on it was in his "30 Thoughts" article...

"That brings us to Dougie Hamilton. Nick Kypreos mentioned the rumours last weekend. Hamilton’s name has been in and out of NHL whispering circles since the draft, but Calgary GM Brad Treliving has always denied them. What no one can dispute is Hamilton’s minutes per game: 17:07 as a rookie, then 19:06, a career-high 21:20 in his third year, 19:46 and 18:26 so far in season five — fifth among Flames blueliners. He’s been above 20 minutes once since Oct. 20. His last three games saw him play 16:24, 14:39 and 15:56. If you trade him now, you might be selling low, but I think there are teams who believe they can make a better player out of him yet. He’s 23. Wonder if Detroit, having struck out so far on Cam Fowler and Jacob Trouba, would have interest.

Here's another SportsNet article on what Kypreos said last weekend...

With a 5-9-1 record, the start of the season hasn’t gone according to plan for the Calgary Flames. And though they may not be prepared to make a move yet to try and get back on course, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos said on Hockey Night in Canada’s Headlines segment that there are at least two teams out there inquiring about a trade.

The part of Calgary’s roster with the most depth is the blueline, so if the Flames ever did make a trade they might start there. Kypreos said the two inquiring teams had especially focused on 23-year-old Dougie Hamilton.

“As far as trade talks are concerned you hear Dougie Hamilton’s name out there,” Kypreos said, before downplaying Calgary’s interest in moving him right now. “I don’t suggest for one second that Calgary’s shopping this guy, but there are teams inquiring. The two teams I’m hearing that are kicking tires are Arizona and Pittsburgh.”

The problem, from Calgary’s perspective, is that Hamilton hasn’t yet developed into the player they thought they were getting from Boston. He has just two goals and six points in 15 games and is fifth among Flames defencemen with an average of 18:49 of ice time per game.

Calgary got Hamilton from Boston in June of 2015 for a first-round pick and two seconds.

"I think if you’re Calgary you’re focused on this guy playing a lot better first," Kypreos continued. "If you are in fact going to think about trading him you gotta trade him when the stock is high and right now, unfortunately in Calgary, it's not."

You've found pretty much everything I read.  As I said in the first post, Friedman speculated (I don't even consider speculation a rumor).  However I saw today that both McKenzie and Dreger said he's been "on the block" for a while.

At the start of the year personally I felt we needed 100 goals out of Tatar, Larkin and Nyquist combined.  At this point they are on pace for 45ish combined. Not good enough.

Need to ditch Kronwall, Sheahan, Tatar, Nyquist, Miller, and Ott as quickly as possible.

Find 2 right handed forwards to fill in.

I like it, but Ott will be here for the duration. Holland likes him, Blashill likes him, he's used in most important situations. Move Abby up with AA & Z, then put Ott back on the 4th. Now fund one more forward. Just stick Bertuzzi in there and Frk as the 13th. That's a ton of turnover though...Holland won't trade Nyquist, he can't after this year without Nyquists permission, he has a NTC that kicks in next season. But if we could deal him, Tatar and Sheahan in some deals for picks or as in packages for some sort of need, that would be great.

I belive Miller and Smith will not be re-signed and Kringewall is two steps away from LTIR.

What is the max cap relief using LTIR? With him and Franzen that is close to 8.5 million.

Ether way, I see Holland trading Franzen at some point ala Pronger.

I am not sure. But ya, if there is a cap on it, I too could see a pronger type deal to a floor team.

If Z goes on LTIR in a couple years, his contract will be very tradeable. To a floor team he could be a 6mil cap-hit while his actual salary would be 1mil. This is the reason why Marc Savard was traded to Florida.

Franzen will not be bad either. He has a caphit of 4 mil, but actual salary in 2018 is 2mil, 2019 is 1 mil, and 2020 is 1mil.

Kronwall is a tougher sell. His caphit is 4.75, but actual payout is 3.5 and 1.75 over the next 2 years. he's probably staying here.
