Missed your post somehow

This is the edge I need in my music

U2 is completely devoid of edge. They are smooth and boring.

Except their guitar player is actually called The Edge.

Why do you hate all music?

He's from Newfoundland. He only like fiddles, two stringed guitars, and little drums made out of codfish and moose pelts.

I dont know if u were intentionally trying to be clever or not (i will give u the benefit of the doubt), but I can assure u that U2 has an "Edge"  And he has his own Signature Fender. Bet they do that for all untalented guitarists.

Have any famous musicians ever come from Newfie-Land?

Came to say this

U2 is mega successful sure, so is Britney Spears

U2 has always been cookie cutter mainstream mass appeal. Great for making lots of money, but not particularly interesting in its own right. Good for playing in a car commercial or over the speakers while I'm shopping at target.

Hair metal is fun. They dress up like chicks and sing about the devil and gettin' laid. I'm not really listening to it for the technical proficiency, but shrieking guitar whines do wake something up in me...

U2 doesn't need to dress up like chicks'n'$hit - they have the talent that doesn't need to...Instead their material references to hardship, perseverance, and a better life.

Isn't music from all the Atlantic provinces basically the same?

Mainstream? No, not really. Great Big Sea is probably the biggest band from Newfoundland. There's also The Navigators, The Irish Descendants, Celtic Connection, Ron Hynes, etc. which are all prototypical Newfie music. The Novaks and Hey Rosetta! are more alternative.

Like this?

Nope. I'm personally not a fan of most Newfie music. There are a few artists / songs that are tolerable, but for the most part, not my jam...

What does where I'm from have to do with my taste in music anyway?

You have Mellencamp and Axl Rose. F*** everyone else.

Yep. People just couldnt get enough of Dan Cleary. They never wanted him to leave.

Dan Cleary is a f***ing legend...

U2 and REM are f***ing awful...

Newfie music is the ******* worst

Can't say I disagree. Ever turn the radio on Sunday morning to Jigs and Reels and want to jam the nearest sharp object into your ear holes?... It's the absolute worst...

:bad: sing about things I can relate to, like cocaine and hookers

TIL there is such thing as Newfie music...

Sounds like Canadian version of bluegrass, but with an scot/irish twist...?

Bluegrass already is Scot/Irish influenced.

Nope. U2 and Nirvana are two of the most overrated bands of all time. Do you also like Oasis and Bon Jovi?

It's okay man, I like the Stones and most would say they're THE most overrated band of all time. Whatever.

I AM A PROUD OASIS FANBOY

Jk

I def wouldn't put the stones in the same boat as U2 or Bon Jovi, but they're also not at the top of my list for classic rock bands either. IDK why, just never got that into them. Mick can still move move like a MFer thou. Probably go with Zeppelin and Aerosmith for my fav big ticket classic rock bands.

Stones are nowhere near the top of my list. I just mentioned them as a so called overrated band that I really like. Big Zeppelin fan. Aerosmith, not so much.

Nah, not really. Huge Petty fan. Seger, Springsteen, Mellencamp. They're all American...

Petty good, don't really care for the rest

I heard somewhere that the NHL is partnering with Green Day for game day stuff, and that's it's gonna be like how the NFL had Hank Williams as the voice/tune of Monday night football.

Big brain NHL marketing

Green Day were good back in the day. Don't really know much of their recent stuff (past 20 years)...

Right. I wasn't aware they still made music honestly.

Just looked it up. They're releasing a song called "Fire, Ready, Aim" for Wednesday night hockey.

Preview:

I guess Larkin is supposed to be in the montage

Yawn

Green Day hasnt been relevant since the early 00's. They were already losing popularity when they came out with their "American Idiot" agenda.

K so what's the difference then youtwo?

Bluegrass was started by musicians around the Appalachians. The Appalacians were heavily populated by immigrants of Scottish and Irish descent. Therefore, their music was heavily influenced by their native homeland and their new one.

There's 'Irish' - as in Catholic Irish...Then there's 'Scots/Irish', or 'Ulster Scots' as in Protestant Irish.

Many here in 'Murica think the Catholic Irish circa 1800s were the 1st 'Irish' to land on these shores...In fact it was the 'Scots/Irish' who came here in the 1700s...Many of our Founding Father's, and members of gov't have Scots/Irish ancestry.

From Wiki...[Scotch-Irish or Scots-Irish may refer to: The Ulster Scots people, an ethnic group in Ulster, Ireland, who trace their roots to settlers from Scotland. Scotch-Irish Americans, descendants of Ulster Scots who first migrated to America in large numbers in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Luv me some Shane McGowan...A proper Irish drunken c**t.

Another bunch of Irish misfits - The Dubliners,,,(Guess which band hails from the area mentioned below gets a cookie)...
