Holl is the better defender of the 3.  Chiarot is the worst defender.  Chiarot has the best shot of the 3, however.  The big problem with Chiarot is his regarded contract.  When Edvinsson comes up, it's going to be like living with your ex for 2 years because she cosigned the lease, but you have a newer, younger, and hotter gf that makes you 5 times as happy.  What the hell was Yzerman thinking?

And yet Derek deploys Chiarot far more heavily than Holl or Maata

It was signing Holl this summer for 3 years that made no sense...  nothing against him or his play, it made a crowded blueline more crowded.
