See, if we sign Doan, we wouldn't be able to do things like this:

This wasn't nearly as bad as Franzen hiding his work ethic.

#2247906 10 Year Anniversary

As fun as chasing patty was, for me the highlight was game 6 in Colorado when we won 2-0. That was as good a performance as I have ever seen from a Redwings team. On the road, facing elimination, against your bitterest rivals, all the pressure of "greatest team ever assembled with 9* future HOFers", they came out and forechecked the living shiznit out of the Avs.

* Now 10, thanks to a certain P.Datsyuk :) Tells you how good that team was that he and Brett Hull were on the 4th line.

Hull - Datsyuk - Devereaux was the 2nd line. Robitaille - Larionov - Holmstrom was the 4th line. Of course, there was hardly any difference.

#2246855 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium Finalized

Posted by cprice12 on 18 January 2012 - 02:25 PM

Obviously, the most glaring aspect is the climate. And in retrospect, when Pittsburgh was a major stretch/logistic nightmare to host a game, you'd have to wonder if a St. Louis or a Washington market will host a game anytime soon. That significantly reduces the amount of teams that can host an event.

Not true.
Back in the 90's, the NHL held a preseason outdoor game in Las Vegas, and the ice was fine.
It doesn't need to be below freezing to sustain ice. And it's not actually ice, it has an additive in it that helps it stay frozen at higher temperatures.
Besides, the avg. temp for St. Louis on Jan. 1st is in the upper 30's. So even if weather was an issue (which it isn't), chances are it would be ok temp-wise in St. Louis.
Now, with that said...I am sure the NHL wants the cold climate and possibility for snow...it just adds to the atmosphere of being a Winter event. So I can see the event not being held in a warm climate for that reason.

I like it waaaaaaaaaay better than the current/old ones. Not totally sold on some of the lines, but the yellow is a really bold choice as a primary color and I think they'll stand out on the ice.

Really because I think it would be embarrassing to use a lame nickname for your city that tells what you do well as a basis for a sports logo or sweater...

:D :D :D :D :D

Honestly it is a huge step forward, but that logo is still awful. Reminds me of the Nucks last update. :sly:

BTW, sarcasm folks about our logo.

No hate here, it is the best logo ever.

that is not the best logo ever.would hate that on the front on my jersey.

Isn't there a thread already about this? Or is this another excuse for Nashville trolling?

The crackdown came with encouragement from the NHL, which has sought to curb the tradition in previous seasons. "It's a safety issue. You throw stuff on the ice, people get their skates caught in it, they fall down and hurt themselves. It's wrong. That's a problem," said NHL VP of media relations Frank Brown in April.

OMG wth???? Hockey players are always falling down on the ice that's why they wear protective gear moron.

It's a very neat thought that Doughty could be on this roster and it would make sense to try a get a solid replacment for Nick Now but is it possible?? If they were going to make a trade for Doughty here is what I'd like to see. Stuart, Hudler, and Filppula for Doughty. No Picks at all keep the draft picks out of the equasion. If it happens I'd be on board as long as it's a fair deal.

The Kings aren't going to trade for both Hudler and Filppula. They might take one in a deal, but the Kings have a stack full of big scoring forwards. A guy like Filppula ends up being Manny Malhotra on that roster; a defensive center who is excellent on PK and faceoffs. Hudler might have more penetration simply because his role is more offensive, but they don't really need that so they're not likely to trade for him.

Stuart would give them a veteran defenseman who has actually been more than a depth defenseman most of his career, as opposed to what they have now in Mitchell and Scuderi. Ericsson would give them a moderately experienced defenseman with size, skating ability, a huge shot, and puck skills. The Kings would definitely want at least one first round pick back, and picks have to be part of the equation because LA's roster is strong enough that the Wings can't offer fair value without them.

#2196538 Is there a problem with Babs?

Posted by Jasper84 on 05 July 2011 - 03:07 PM

So I was talking with a buddy of mine today and he was telling me how the Wings contacted a few players and they refused to talk about coming to the Wings because of Babcock. Apparently, some ex-players of Babcock (including ex-Wings, not just his previous teams) have been bad mouthing him.

I've always liked Babs as a coach and have considered him one of the best. But now after hearing this, it makes me wonder if there is problems with Babs and players? We know that he and Commie don't get along, but now that I hear some other players refused to sign here because of him really makes me wonder.

Has anyone else heard anything about players not liking Babs?

#2196051 Red Wings trying to move Jiri Hudler

Agreed. Hudler is a Wing, and once the season starts, he is one of us. I will cheer him on, delight in his glory, share his dejection in his shame, and hope against all hope that he will prove that he is worthy of the title of Red Wing.

Until then, I look for better options.

As you might guess, I generally hate mid-season trades.

Oh, what if we sign Jagr for league minimum, and bundle him with Hudler in a trade to the Pens for a top level d-man! :ninja:

#2189876 Babcock "pissed off" about Burns-to-SJ

Posted by YzerPucks19 on 25 June 2011 - 10:33 PM

If they don't sign Franzen to a long term deal they couldn't have dealt him for Burns and a draft pick. Franzen has been horrible since the big signing.
Don't know when he will show up.

Wings need D bad.

Holland could have had 5 picks in the 2nd round don't mean s***. All 5 picks could turn out to be s*** for the Franchise long term.

It's is time for this team to get younger this season.

Holland has to make some deals. Missed Brewer and Burns.

Wish they kept Yzerman instead. At least he is trying to get Tampa better.
