#2469604 1/1 Winter Classic 2014 GDT: Maple Leafs 3, Red Wings 2 (F/SO)

Posted by GoOzzieGo on 01 January 2014 - 02:07 PM

Fun game so far but someone failed by that not being Karen Newman singing the National Anthem....or at the very least, some performer from Michigan.  The Zac Brown Band?  Really?

#2453567 Pronger may be eligible for HHOF in 2015

With some guys in the league, you get the feeling that they're driven to just hurt people out there (Cooke for example), while others are driven to win....and if that means being mean and nasty to anyone in their way to winning, then so be it (Chelios and Pronger come to mind).  Love them or hate them while their playing for/against your team....but in the end, I gotta stand in appreciation of the warriors that they were and the drive that they put into winning.  As much as I hated Pronger when he played, I have a ton more respect for him and his drive to win then I will ever have for the likes of a Franzen or that type of player.

Agreed. If we could mortgage the farm for Stamkos, I'd give it a thought........

Colo, Sproul, Frk, Nesrosil, and 4 first rounders for Stamkos.

This is mortgaging the farm?......a bunch of unproven players and a scrub for another team's still young superstar.  I'm sure Yzerman will be all over that.

This should be fun!

#2382180 Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

Posted by GoOzzieGo on 08 April 2013 - 09:34 AM

I'd hate for the streak to come to an end, but what really is gained by making the playoffs and embarrasingly being booted in the first round?  Maybe missing the playoffs would serve as an eye opener to Holland that his team really isn't all that good?  Maybe missing the playoffs lights a fire under his butt to make some real improvements to this team in the future?

I guess Nashville is adding insurance in case of the possible life without Weber eh?

If they don't pick up anyone its 50 pts that hasn't been replaced.

This theory works if you only plan on playing with 5 defensemen. Given that Rafalski's minutes are going to be picked up by someone, most any able bodied defenseman will pick up close to 15 to 20 points by the sheer dumb luck of being out there for that amount of time. Hell, even the offensively challenged Chelios picked up 11 or 12 points in his last full season of full time play here.

#2021786 It's Official: Turco to Hawks

Posted by GoOzzieGo on 02 August 2010 - 10:56 PM

Last year was Howard's rookie season. He was also victimized by more than a few horrible calls in the series against the Sharks. Having three 5v3 goals scored against one really skews the numbers, and it's not fair to the goalie to fault him for that.

Turco's numbers were bolstered by several strong playoff performances well in the past. His last playoff experience was in '08, and he played absolutely horribly against the Wings in the WCF. He has gotten older, and his abilities have seen a very clear decline.

True....but if we break down the series versus the Wings, Turco really only had 2 bad games.

Game 1...4-1 loss. 3 power play goals against, 1 of them a 5 on 3. And this was coming off one of the longer games in NHL history against SJ. According to the recap, the whole Dallas team looked fatigued. Turco's fault?

Game 2....2-1 loss. 1 power play goal against. Stopped 32 of 34 shots

Game 3....he sucked

Game 4....3-1 victory. Stopped 33 of 34 shots.

Game 5....2-1 victory. Stopped 38 of 39 shots.

Game 6....he sucked

Since then...yeah, his numbers have been way down but the Dallas team in front of him hasn't exactly been a powerhouse either. I just feel he's got something left in the tank and that Chicago's goal-tending woes might not be as bleak as some are making them out to be.

Lol... Banking the future? Hardly. Try again troll.

Troll? What are you talking about? I've been on here longer than you. Just because I have a life outside a message board doesn't make me a troll.

Have we not turned the goal-tending reigns over to Jimmy Howard? Those are his playoff numbers.

Perhaps not, but its nothing to write home about *when it comes to playoff goaltending* either.

Neither is 2.75 GAA and .914......but we're banking our future on it.

#2021271 niemi out turco in?

Posted by GoOzzieGo on 01 August 2010 - 01:42 PM

Those games weren't against Detroit, however. :)

Shhhh....I'm trying to pump up the Hawk's fans so they'll be even more disappointed when we beat them.

#2020225 I'm Boycotting the Winter Classic...

Posted by GoOzzieGo on 28 July 2010 - 08:37 PM

Vancouver/Colorado is a great idea, as someone mentioned.

A great idea for who??? The major markets of the East Coast would snore, much like I'm sure the West Coast did for Boston/Philly. A Crosby/Ovechkin match-up has the ability to draw in the casual fans and their credit cards worldwide. So for the NHL, this is the smartest move whether we like it or not.

Their two biggest draws, eh? Would you like to know the two biggest fanbases in the league?

1. The Maple Leafs
2. The Red Wings

Yeah, two traditional fan bases that are going to be there regardless.

Would you like to know the players with the top two positions in jersey sales?

1. Crosby
2. Ovechkin

It's all about money and marketing and those two are going to bring in more new fans than either the Leafs or the Wings. Simple marketing 101. The band wagon hockey fans could give a rat's ass about tradition....they want whats hot in the here and now. THAT is what the NHL is banking on by giving the Winter Classic Pittsburgh/Washington.

I'm not watching a day filled of NBC creaming itself over Sidney (yet again).

There were plenty of other teams and locations that haven't had the chance, that are more deserving.

The NHL can't land a decent TV contract, so on the one day when they ARE able to grab a piece of the spotlight....you're going to fault them for putting their two biggest draws on the ice?

Keep boycotting if you like, but don't complain when NHL games are continually having to be watched on some obscure channel because they are not able to prove that they can pull ratings to deserve to be on anything better.

#1988404 Whats the record in the NHL

Posted by GoOzzieGo on 23 May 2010 - 10:31 AM

I don't understand the hate towards Hossa. As far as I know, he didn't demand the trade to Pittsburgh.....went there as a rental and probably didn't like the fit so he came to Detroit at a deep discount. He could have played better for us in the playoffs but for the most part he was a very solid player for us. We simply could not afford him after that or I'm sure he probably would still be here.

Can you fault him for going to a Stanley Cup contender? I would think if given the opportunity, any one of us would choose to go to a winning team instead of a bottom dweller.
