You never know. Weiss has to be fired up and going to throw it all out there if he gets put in the lineup. The guy is playing for his career. I'd love to see him suit up against Toronto. He can atleast provide what Abby has in the top six. Even when Weiss was hurt last year he was good at board battles and face offs and he appeared to be skating better If Cleary dresses before Weiss I'm going to puke
The Red Wings better win this one for Canadian Wings Fans. There's nothing worse than crossing over from Windsor and Sarnia with bus loads of Leaf fans only to have Detroit lose to the leafs in their own barn.
First GDT post of the season, glad to finally have the new format finished and ready to post up for you great posters at LGW.
Franzen appears to be fine, just a leg spasm, and likely will play. Monster makes his first appearance of the season. Let's follow up on last night's great performance and trim the leafs in back to back games.
As always, lines are projected as it stands right now at the time I am posting this in the middle of the night. Lines and goalies are subject to change.
I don't get it TSN has had such an informative and well organized site. Yeah, you want a more modern look but why not keep the great structure instead of throwing the whole concept over board and thencreate something where nobody knows, how to find stuff ?! i.e. Podcasts, Season Preview...
Also please stop that stupid "load more" button and add SITE numbers seriously how difficult is that ? Even I could code that.
Now the site looks "modern" but more like a mobile unorganized site...disappointed. If somebody knows where to find the podcasts etc. please link them
I hope so.
I'd love to have another holmstrom pan out.
I don't know how well they scouted the other late guys, but it'd be awesome to have vahatalo, ehn, or kadeykin pan out as top six or even top 9 players.
Having a 6'3-6'5 center would be amazinggggg to have with the possibility of having Jurco, tats, Nyquist, mantha, or pulks on the wing.
I know its highly unlikely any of them become stars, but its hard not to get excited about them simply because theyre hakan choices, who are huge.
Nobody thought datsyuk zetterberg or lidstrom would be stars when we got them , or Franzen would be a 30 goal scorer and playoff performer(even though he hasn't been great of late)
I'm sure we go some forwards that will/can turn out to be stars
Mantha comes to mind obviously ... Nyquist if he continues his tear ... I see a lot of guys with tons of potential upfront ,not all will make it , some might need to get traded but I can't remember a time we had prospects this good and deep in our system
Star potential goalie in mrazek .... Backman ouellet sproul marchenko in the back end
minus his kronwalling though, he just doesn't seem to be brave enough to do it anymore.
Do you honestly see Kronwall's reduction in hits as a lack of "bravery?" As the Wings' #1 Dman, the onus is on him to be defensively responsible at all times. He can't afford to take himself out of the play (who's going to cover-Smith?) in order to deliver a soul-crushing hit, the very type the league seems intent on cracking down on, especially if someone's hurt on the play. I don't see that as a lack of bravery, I see that as Kronner recognizing that he is now a leader on this team and adjusting his game accordingly.
As for predictions, I can't wait to see how a pain-free Z plays. If he truly feels better than he has in years, he's going to rep that C beyond our wildest dreams. *lady boner* Same with Pav and The Knee of Infinite Sorrow.
The kids are going to continue to play with swag and light a fire under everyone's ball sack. I love the smell of burnt pubes in the morning. Particularly if that morning is hosting a nationally televised NBC game. Suck it, Edzo.
I lost a lot of confidence in Howard last year, and from interviews I've read it sounds like he understands that his play was unacceptable. He's the big question mark for me this year--when he's on, the Wings are a machine. When he's off we're a bunch of monkeys humping various footballs all over the ice whilst pinching uncontrollably at the wrong times and firing off slappers over the glass resulting in ill-timed penalties and a growing sense of ennui. It's horrible.
Anyway, while I'm certainly not counting poultry, I do see that there could be some positive things to look forward to this season, despite some of the glaring holes remaining unaddressed.
I mean, in a full season Tatar's going to give you 20+ goals. To me 20 goals is worth 2.75 million, every day of the week. 20+ goals and shutdown defense will get you 5 million plus. Ask Kesler or O'Reilly.
Think about how this compares to Damien Brunner - Brunner was a horribly one-dimensional player with little NHL track record but already in his mid-20's, and there were those that pissed (at the time) that the Wings wouldn't go to 2.5 or 3 million per on a 2 or 3-yr deal.
Tatar posted a 19-goal season in really his first full season (on a team decimated by injuries and surrounded by other young players). To get him on a 3-year evaluation period AND he's still an RFA at the end of the deal is terrific. It benefits Tatar, too, but it's a good signing for the organization, nonetheless.
UPDATE: And I see that it's $2.75 per now. You can see from my posts that I was preparing the mob for this I think it's perfectly valued. Maybe he's worth just shy of $2 million now, but if he progresses at all, he's easily a $4 million player in year 3. And if he doesn't pan out, qualify him conservatively or cut him loose.
...after a few weeks of thinking about it, and after hearing some interviews, if the UFA's don't want to come here, f*** em! If they don't want to be coached (like Babs said) and want to go somewhere where the team bows down to them, f*** em! (I still hate the #KFQ signing, but can kinda, sorta understand the Cleary....kinda.)
I say, this team will conquer, this team will rise, and if they don't then they will again! Get Babs signed, get these kids bridged in, lets remake this Dynasty core, Lets Go Wings!
