#2467087 12/21 GDT: Red Wings 5 @ Maple Leafs 4 (SO, yes, SO)

Posted by cupforwings on 21 December 2013 - 10:23 PM

We outshot them and had a 3-1 lead.  That's how I look at it with my pessimism.  We should have had a regulation win.

Do you realize who is on our team right now? Or more importantly, who is not playing right now? lol.  There is zero reason to pessimistic after this win. Great game!

#2442911 Will young talent ever speak out against Wings philosophy?

Posted by cupforwings on 09 October 2013 - 08:50 PM

Like when little Bert put Jensen on the LTIR? Everyone on the forum was for it. Trying to make an impression and a name for himself. Go back a few years. probert, kocur, grimson all practiced fighting. Tommy hearns used to box Mccarty lapointe etc..... There are tryout videos online of McKee fighting others in the USHL tryout camp. Every player has to play their game to earn a spot. You do what you have too to make it.

Very simple: yes you do what you have too to win the job.

Just to disprove your outlandish, and idiotic comments:

Said Tyler: “I just don’t want to run a vet. I’ll still play hard, but I’m not going to do something stupid.”

Franzen-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi

Nyquist-Zetterberg-Alfredson

Cleary-Weiss-Tatar

Anderson-Abdelkadar-Miller

I feel like something like this gives us the most depth.  I don't think Nyquist will instantly make us the best team in the league.  But he really is our 3rd most dangerous forward and should be playing at this point.

The one thing I question is going for another center.  Z and D play better apart.  They are both dominate two-way centers.  They have played better apart for years now.  So they basically went and got a number two center when they should have got an elite winger, via trade or FA or whatever.

I think Babcock will figure it out pretty soon.

We are not sharp tonight.

Red Wings didn't look good that period.

What were you guys watching? lol.  We completely dominated that period.  We had the puck in their zone the entire time.  There was some great movement as well.  They got a lucky goal, we missed some chances.  If the Wings continue that play they will win this game.

#2430573 Red Wings popularity in Detroit/Michigan

Posted by cupforwings on 17 July 2013 - 08:54 PM

Its 97.1.  I think that is enough said.  They know nothing about hockey.. Their proof for people not liking hockey in Michigan is nobody ever calls in their show to talk about it.  They make this argument all the time.  In reality, nobody calls in because they don't want to talk to THEM about hockey.  Maybe its just because I grew up playing hockey, and everybody I know loves hockey, but it seems like the Wings are up there at the top.  Especially in my home town.  Some of it is also that the Wings have been good for so long, while the Lions and Tigers sucked for that same period, and they are finally getting good.

#2421302 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by cupforwings on 22 June 2013 - 12:39 AM

Cool!

And I will concede that Emdog is 5th or 6th on our current depth chart at the center position. But I wont concede that playing Bertuzzi, Tootoo, Eaves, or Samuelsson is better for the team. I put these guys ahead of Emmerton:

Zetterberg
Datsyuk
Franzen
Brunner
Helm
Nyquist
Abdelkader
Anderson
Tatar
Miller

They all play at a higher skill level.

Brunner fits in nicely for us at 2.5 mil a season. Thats a big raise for him.

Eaves and Bert are easily in front of Emmerton.

Oh god, NBCsports just did a little promo on Dan Cleary before they interview him on how good he has been for us... I think I just puked in my mouth.

#2387828 The Wings Are 16-0-2 When Scoring Three or More Goals

Posted by cupforwings on 22 April 2013 - 06:29 PM

interesting.  You would think with the talented forwards we have, scoring would come more regularly.  Unfortunately, I think our offensive problems are related more to the Defense's inability to break out of the zone cleanly.

#2386930 Tatar frustrated; says he will only play in NHL when contract done

Posted by cupforwings on 20 April 2013 - 07:04 PM

But we need someone like Tatar who actually shoots not a playmaker like Nyquist. But I do believe Nyquist has the higher ceiling.

Nyquist has the same amount of goals in 2 less games in the AHL this year.  I'm not convinced Tatar is this great shooter that people think he is.  IMO, just from watching the games this season, Nyquist is the better player.  He has really started controlling the game when he is out on the ice the last few weeks.

#2386156 4/17 GDT: Red Wings 2 @ Flames 3

Posted by cupforwings on 17 April 2013 - 11:15 PM

I almost hope that they are out of playoff contention for the final home game of the season season, so that they get booed off the ice by the fans in Detroit. Because that is what they deserve for this season.

I am super mad.  Much like many of you on here.  I mean, I am probably madder then I should be about a hockey game.

But comments like these are sad and embarrassing.  This team does not deserve to get booed off ice.  They have made the playoffs for 20 straight years and have given all of us, including you, something to cheer about more then any other franchise in the NHL.  This team works harder on a nightly basis then many teams from the past red wings team.  This will happen with young kids in the lineup.  We dominated tonight and 2 stupid mistakes lost us this game.  it sucks.

#2383057 4/11 GDT : Sharks 3 at Red Wings 2 (SO)

Posted by cupforwings on 11 April 2013 - 04:03 PM

I watched Dekeyser out there the other night and while i seen potential...that kid looked fairly lost at times and incredibly nervous/anxious. In a must win game right now I'd take the pissed off veteren NHL defenseman playing his former team over a a rookie three games out of college hockey. And im not a big White fan either...

Exactly! Tootoo is exactly the type of player you need on the ice tonight...when the Wings start loafing like theyre great at doing, we need Toots to get out there and fire up the guys. This is why we miss Helm so much...Tootoo is our closest answer to Darren Helm right now.

I actually disagree about DD.  I thought he looked very solid.  He made some great plays, and nice passes.  And he never got beat.  His ability to get the puck to the offense the first time is needed.

#2382314 Larry Murphy Fired by FSD

Posted by cupforwings on 08 April 2013 - 06:53 PM

My friends and I know somebody who works for FSN.  Whenever we see this guy, he is always telling stuff about what goes on inside there.  Anyway, we saw him recently and we asked him about the Murhpy thing.  Basically he said nobody there knows why he got fired, and that everybody there was pretty mad about.  Not groundbreaking info, but I think it kind of supports what a lot people are saying on how this might be personal or something.  Anyway, thought I'd share the info.

#2382084 4/7 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 0

Posted by cupforwings on 07 April 2013 - 04:36 PM

But I haven't seen any team like these Wings, which ended up winning the Cup.  A team with limited skill and limited work ethic.

Some systems work better in the playoffs, when you can suffocate teams and gameplan against them strictly.  That's why those underdog teams didn't finish higher in those regular seasons.  Regular season is a different animal.

That is a completely false statement.  This is one of the hardest working teams we have had.  Don't confuse not dominating every night with lack of work ethic.

#2381969 4/7 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 0

Posted by cupforwings on 07 April 2013 - 02:09 PM

Can't believe this team had that big home winning streak last year.

I can't envision them beating anyone at the JLA right now in a big game.  Just pathetic.

Lol, its frustrating, but that was far from a pathetic game.  This is what happens when your lineup is full of young guys and rookies. There will be growing pains.

On the bright side, DD looked great.

That Kronwall penalty is irritating.  Thats the second time he has taken a stupid penalty in the last 5 minutes to kill our chances.

#2381793 4/7 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 0

The same reason we suck so frequently the rest of the time, because we've got two legitimate talents and a ton of mediocre hacks or rookies filling out our lineup?

So that means St Louis sucks too?  Because they just managed one goal through two periods?
