I keep pointing this out: Gaborik doesn't magically term the Wings into a contender. What he does do is force the Wings to sell their future for a slight bump in their tiny chances of going anywhere this season. If Hollands stands pat this year it would only be a bad move, not the terrible one like everyone seems to have a hardon for.
He scores goals.
The rest of the roster? Doesn't score goals.
I agree we aren't a Marian Gaborik away from being elite, but a Marian Gaborik is they type of guy we need to add in order to move forward.
Ken Holland better get someone at the Trade Deadline on Wednesday or before. It's time for him to do something instead of him staying pat again. It's embarrassing seeing my favorite team lose like this. When I have to deal with my father who is a Montreal Canadians Fan teasing me about the game he still things where not going to make the playoff I think we are.
Tell your father that his team was the joke of the league no more than one year ago.....
Streaky? Right. They guy hasn't put up fewer than 20 goals since his rookie year (18) except in 08-09 when he had 13 goals and 10 assists in 17 games played. You can say a lot of things about Marian Gaborik, but any way you look at it the guy's an elite goal scorer.
Lol at any Red Wing fan who wouldn't want Gaborik on this team.
In the last week or so, there have been really only 3 higher end trades made and all of them include Pittsburgh.
If there was one team that DIDN'T need to make a move, it was probably Pittsburgh.
He has added one big defenseman and two long time captains and what has he given up? One top prospect (none of their top 5 prospects) and crap picks. NO roster players given up.
Ray Shero is the best GM in hockey. Granted Sidney Crosby fell into his lap and if the 04-05 lockout didn't happen Crosby most likely would have been drafted somewhere else, but that is a different argument.
Although he hasn't been completely atrocious, every time he pinches, look out.
The scariest plays with Ian White are the ones where he is the guy that needs to keep the puck in the zone at the blueline. Twice in the game Sunday he found himself in that spot and twice he gave up a 2 on 1. If he fails at that spot, he lacks the athleticism to recover.
Nyquist might be our trade deadline acquisition. Holland may be wanting to see what Nyquist can do before deciding to pull the trigger on a trade that has us lose some assets. Why this didn't happen earlier is anybody's guess.
Tatar got sent down probably because Nyquist will fill a similar role. Anderson wouldn't get sent down because he's on the 4th line, and Nyquist will probably fill Tatar's presence. I don't think it's a knock on Tatar, but we (unfortunately) can't send down Abdelkader or Cleary or someone like that instead.
They can sit their ass down just like White because they play like s***.
