#2668395 ECQF Game 1 Post-GDT: at Tampa Bay 3, Red Wings 2

Any line with Z and D can't get down ice - neither gets skating down ice fast enough and the play goes side to side. Doesn't matter who you put with them.

Okay I disagree with you those guys still get down the ice maybe not with pure speed but pav can still break in the zone fairly easily, z does it more with strength, and I believe those two will get better they always take a game to get adjusted to playing with each other again. I think mantha would be the perfect fit with them. Not every line has to be fast those two are smart enough and can make plays that they don't need pure speed. Then your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lines are pretty quick

Convinced AA is more effective out there than Z. Why is this kid riding the bench most of the game? He drew a huge penalty and had a couple great chances. Should be rewarded at this point.

Ya I agree if only they ran these lines....

Larkinr- datsyuk- z

If we went with this and played everyone up front fairly equally, we could roll over Tampa no doubt in my mind

#2667435 Playoff Lines + Mantha Back to GR

I like the lines for who is in I wish AA and helm were switched and jurco was in for Anderson. Imagine AA and larkin flanking Richards? Talk about speed and Richards and AA have real good chemistry

Best trade his contract to a cap floor team, or be handcuffed all next season. If Holland doesn't do this he is worse than this season have proven.

It said in the article that holland won't trade his contract

In that article, it says that the Red Wings told him they will not trade his contract to relieve the cap. Holland, in his obsessive loyalty will eat the $7.5M hit for the year and handicap his team for no reason but to stay loyal. f*** Holland, he needs to be fired!

That's not even staying loyal it's not like the guy is gonna play for that team or even be mentioned by that team. Holland is a damn fool

The thing that I look at is were not seen or looked at as a contender so that means we have nothing to lose, so why play it safe and try to as we say "lean on the vets" there are a lot of exciting kids Larkin, AA, Mantha, at times even tats and goose so why not embrace them there fast, hungry, and skilled why not? What is there to lose? I'm not saying sit pav and Z if anything I say we put them together with a guy like Larkin and let them dominate. Ya it may leave the rest of the group as considered to be inexperienced but those inexperienced guys also have talent, speed, and are hungry. Turn these guys loose play fast and let the kids play, I think we'd be a lot better

THere is absolutely no way AA and Mantha will play in the same game in the playoffs unless we are seriously desperate. Neither of them are even close to where they need to be defensively and when line matching gets really greasy in the playoffs they will get exposed.
Z - D - Abs
Larkin - Sheahan - Gus
Helm - Glen - Tats
Andy - Richards - Mantha/AA
Sheahan and Glendening have been very good lately.  The only way to get Z going is to play him with Pavel.  The other winger on that line could be anyone but Abby has been there and knows his role.  I just think there is no way AA and Mantha are in the lineup at the same time.

Ya and that's the problem with the way our coach thinks, honestly I don't think AA is bad at all defensively

@HeleneStJames: "It's advantage us in coaching" - Jeff Blashill as he prepares to coach Red Wings against friend Jon Cooper & Tampa Bay Lightning

Look at your left wing.
Except possibly for Helm they are all suspect defensively. Any coach in the playoffs would overload that side. Over 4 games you are cooked.

Then throw one of Abby or Nyquist on the left wing. Larkin is not bad defensively. I really don't think any of our forwards are especially bad defensively. It's just on the wings everyone expects players to play defense like pav does abd like Z used to

This would be the smart thing to role in playoffs

Anyone else have there input on what should be going on?

This team needs to find their balls

Well that goal stemmed from the captain taking a dumb penalty so we should start there

#2663402 3/29 GDT - Red Wings at Canadiens - 7:30 PM EST

I posted this in some other game thread, and I'll try to find it again if anyone's interested, but Winging it in Motown had a nice piece on why Blashill's system hasn't worked, and it basically boils down to we don't have a D corps capable of playing the system Blashill has in place.
Babcock knew what he had to work with(a mediocre defense), and kept a more conservative style of play as a result, which was boring, but led to less high-quality scoring chances against. Blashill's system is more aggressive offensively and allows the D to pinch more often, but it leaves us vulnerable to more quality chances against. Why Blashill hasn't adjusted to this not working by now is beyond me, and also our terrible PP
any-hoo, still hoping we can somehow eek into the big dance, but I also won't lose too much sleep if we don't

I get what your saying, but from my vantage point I'm seeing the problem being more in terms of in zone defense that is killing this team as opposed to bad pinches that lead to odd man rushes. So I don't really agree with the fact that Blashills system being a more aggressive one as the problem. It's about in zone coverage and quite frankly it's pathetic
