#2381039 Ilitch is being cheap with the Wings now that the Tigers are good.

Posted by Richdg on 05 April 2013 - 09:19 PM

Mr. I isn't being cheap in any way shape or form. Last summer he was PERSONNALLY trying to land parise and Suter. Fle out to get them, wined and dined them, they choose to go home. Nothing wrong with that. This fall we will be within 2 million of the cap, if not closer just by resigning our own UFA/RFA players.

Holland did try to get O'reilly, but he failed in his attempt-which will haunt us. Mr. I is not nor has he ever been the problem. Every time Holland and DD have gone to him and asked for money, they get it. he is the best type of owner. he stays out of the way untill the GM asks him to get involved.

All this whining about Holland standing pat and not selling the future, unbelievable. If I were Holland I'd have taken the easy road out last summer (- retiring with Lidas and moving up as president of hockey operations in the organization) and left my successor trying to fix a behind the pack team, going out as a GM legend! One at least has to love his will to fix it and leave (hopefully Stevie, Shero or Chiarelli) with a great roster to build from.

Develano has pissed away his chance to ever GM the Detroit Red Wings, with his stupid and insanely offending comments. This organization from top to bottom is and always was about being classy and you can't tell me Mr. I was happy with this comment. You try your best to threat players well and then someone of your own organization is throwing the players under the bus like nothing? Doesn't fly with me.

So of course people can critisize Holland all they want, but at least admire his will to fix things.

What? Who was the GM before Holland? Are you 12? Jimmy D has already been there and done it. he was the one that buildt this team from scratch. I guess you don't remember anything before 1998 or so.........

So pathetic, why would he retire because he didn't want to over pay all these over hyped players that aren't even going help us win the cup. Reality check people, everyone knows even if we had traded there's not a player that's going to get this team to the stanley cup. Holland is just realistic and you guys must face the it too that this team is in rebuilding. Keeping draft pick and our prospects is more beneficial to us as then having players like Jagr & Iginla on the roster.

I'm so happy that Holland didn't overpay anyone or that he didn't do any trade at all. Truth be told there's not one player that was on the trade block or could of been traded for which is worth it this year.

You guys think this is back in the days when there's no salary cap we can trade our picks and prospects and get some talent as fast and as easy as it was before. Think again, the game's changed and the salary cap makes decision tougher, the only way to stay competitive over year and year is to keep building up with the draft and keeping your core intact. If you go spend money on FA's and ship off your prospect, you will be dead last for the rest of your life.

This is wrong. Well kinda. Are we rebuilding? if so, then why hang onto guys that are going to be gone soon? Example A. White. UFA after this year. Not coming back. No room for him to be honest. Move him for an extra pick. More prospects. Example B, Colavacio-see Example A. Example C Cleary. example D Miller. Example E franzen. Example F Filppula. Example G Sammy. All could have been moved thus freeing up cap room and gathering more picks to rebuild faster.

Oh you mean you wanted some players? McBain would have ben nice. 25 year old RH shooting Dman. Would have fit in perfectly with Smith, Kindl, lashoff, and dekeyser. Courturier is another. 20 year old future #1 C, something we don't have.

Now I could go on and on about that, and many have. but that wasn't the point of this thread. fact: Holland did nothing. Nothing good nor bad. Nothing to gear up for one last run, and speed up the rebuilding process. The question is why? Does he really believe we will be better by doing nothing? if so, then what do we need him around for? I guess we have all the layers we will ever need. trueth is, no team in any sport is EVER a finished product. You are always changing and trying to improve. We didn't. So again, I ask why? There is only 1 explaination that makes sense. he is done.

I woulnd't be upset... This isn't a knee jerk reaction. I think this organization needs a bit of a shake-up at some point. We also need a shift in outlook in my opinion.

One of the things that happen to many organizations over time is, they get very top heavy. Every company that goes into reorganiztion reduces the number in management. Some streamlining could be very much in order. Commitees to make decisions never work. Go look at congress........LOL

Just thinking out loud for a minute here, haven't heard or read anything.

Holland joked for many years that once Nick retired, he was going to do so. His close friend and long time Assistant GM Nill is the choosen succesor. keeping those 2 things in mind and today, it isn't to much of a stretch to beleive Holland may be retiring as GM this year.

The last thing Holland would want to do to his friend is set him up to fail. Moving pieces and not having it work, would fall on Nill's head not Holland's. Other than a couple of UFA's that could leave/should leave, what else will chnage between now and summer time? Nothing. This way Holland can walk away with the team in an ok place. Full set of draft picks, not to many big decisions to be made, cap space to spend money on, and a team still capable of going to the playoffs.

Now the team is in a decent place for the next GM to come in and do things his way.

Again, just my thought. But it would explain things if true.

#2377463 Brunner hasn't hit the wall. He has slammed into it.

Posted by Richdg on 31 March 2013 - 06:40 PM

One of the things we all have to keep in mind is, brunner, Z, and Datsyuk were all in game shape when the season started. part of the reasons for their hot start. Now that the rest of the leahue is in shape, the league "caught up" to them. This is part and only part of the reason why all 3 are struggling to score lately. Now add in the offensive limits of the others on the team and yes it does make our O weak.

#2376239 Wings sign D Dan DeKeyser to 2-year deal

Posted by Richdg on 29 March 2013 - 08:26 PM

Great signing by the RW's. yes it will take him some time to adjust to the NHL. he needs some practice just to learn everyones moves, habits, and the communications on ice. No rush. That does give us 10 Dmen now, so yes some one or ones will be moved in some form or another.

On a different note. My gosh. Some of you are just plain silly. Just because you didn't get the info YOU wanted when YOU wanted it, you go off into bizzareland. In fact, I would like to invite all of you guys to my house to play poker. Bring lots of cash.

This was DD'd biggest day of his life to date, and HE had all the right to due it whatever way HE wanted to. This day was all about HIM not any of us. You only get one first pro contract. It is kinda like your first kiss, first "time" first job, first love etc.....

One of those days as a Wings fan that you will never forget like the cup win in 97

Best part-it was McCarty that did both.

#2370904 long 3 day break.......

Posted by Richdg on 18 March 2013 - 08:34 PM

Yes I understand that we can't have hockey games every other day for very long. The bodies wear down. But I do enjoy seeing the RW's on TV every other day. Now we have a 3 day break and I find myself going into withdrawls..........

#2370750 Next 5 games could define season.

Posted by Richdg on 18 March 2013 - 02:05 PM

I've got some news for you: seven points in 12 games, which equates to 1.167 points per game, is almost precisely the pace that every team in the west save Colorado, Anaheim, and Chicago is riding.

I guess all of them aren't good enough either.

No it is not. we are a team that competes for Cups! not to be "like everyone else".

#2370644 Trading Filppula

Posted by Richdg on 18 March 2013 - 10:37 AM

Fil isn't a goal scorer. He is a passer. We have a bunch of those guys. No need to spend 4+ million to resign him. Move for picks prospects and spend our money of guys that put the puck in the net. How many years have we heard Babs, Holland, Micky and others talk about Filppula needs to shot more, needs more confidence, etc..... well he is 28 going on 29. If he ahsn't figured this out by now, he never will.

Now, this doesn't mean I hate Filppula or anything like that. But we have a bucnh of Filppula's. We don't have any Perry's or Clarksons. That is what we need.

#2369518 WMU's season.....

Posted by Richdg on 15 March 2013 - 09:09 PM

Hopefully after they lose whatever game ends their season, Dekeyser gets notice from his coach that Ken Holland is on the line with a contract ready to sign.

would it be in poor taste for Holland to go to every game that WMU has left? With his briefcase.......

#2369427 Red Wings close to re-signing Howard

Posted by Richdg on 15 March 2013 - 08:05 PM

If the rumored amounts are true-5 million, Howard would be the 12th best paid G in the league. 12th! That is a bargin.

#2369424 WMU's season.....

Posted by Richdg on 15 March 2013 - 07:52 PM

Ok Michigan won, but as I was watching they mentioned it is a best of 3 series. So at least 1 more game. But the same questions are there. if WMU is out of the CCHA this weekend, is their season done? if so Dekeyser gets signed when?
