Green's reputation as a total liability on the defensive side of the puck is ridiculous. This is a very good defenseman whose strengths are perfectly suited for the kind of hockey the Wings play (now more than ever, with Blashill coming in). I'd love to see what he can do with DeKeyser; I think that could be a great pairing.
We didn't need Richards like we needed Green, but depth is the name of the game in today's NHL and Richards certainly makes us deeper. He's always struck me as a "very Red Wings" player. I expect him to be big for us while Datsyuk's out.
People not wanting us to overpay for free agents is dumb. The way the market it is, you will never be able to sign a guy below market value. So the Wings either overpay for someone they think fits or they will never sign a big name free agent again.
