So a daily would you question. Vesey isn't going to sign with the Preds. They of course are always looking for offense. Would you spin a Sheahan or tatar for Vesey, if he agrees to sign? We would be moving a young F that is a RFA either this year or next for another talented young F that is under control for several years. Thoughts?
Its amazing everyone is calling for Blashills head. Same thing was said about Babs after his first year when the Wings bombed out 5 times harder than this year. Good thing nobody listened to the fans then.
I don't see anyone getting moved. Holland will take the team into training camp over the roster limit, and a couple injuries will happen and then all of a sudden nobody needs to be moved. Then by the time these injured players recover, a few more go down to LTIR. It seems to happen every year.
Vili Saarijarvi 71: I shrug my shoulders and go, "Pro pace, pro pace." I have seen Vili for the sum total of about an hour, and I already understand that the Red Wings didn't overreact by signing him to a pro contract some eight days after he was drafted. He's not big at 5'10" and he's not massively physically imposing, but he is an elegant puckhandler, a smart, slick passer and a superb skater who just does everything well. Tyler Wright called him the "complete package" and that's not off. He's really, really good and I don't know how the Wings got him in the 3rd round, either, because he plays like a 1st round pick.
From the 2015 draft thread.....
... we been bitching forever that we need defensemen but we get a 5;9 dman that didnt look good in his short stint at ushl and returned back to finland....
The clear implication in that sentence is that he couldn't hack hockey in NA so he's going home
There are many other reasons to go back but either way he seems to be playing for Flint next season.
Take it for what it's worth, but I noticed a number of favorable mentions regarding Saarijarvi and his play during today's camp on Twitter earlier today. Malik did a write-up on him, too.
So the Wings signed Vili Saarijarvi at the development camp.
Should they have done so?
Well, first and foremost, it's to control his playing future, and second, despite the fact that he's 5'10," not 5'9," and about 175 pounds...
Yeah. Yeah they should have, and I'm glad they did. Even on first glance, he's fleet-of-foot, he's got great positioning, his PACE is at pro level, not USHL level, and he looked better than anybody not named Dylan Larkin out there today. Saarijarvi can pass on the fly and pass where he wants the puck to go, not just where the puck should be when he's making the pass, his shot is hard and he has no problems whatsoever dealing with bumps and grinding. He reminded me of Joe Hicketts last summer, except that Saarijarvi has far better offensive skills, and again, that PACE is something that only stands out if you're really damn good. I was that impressed with him.
I want to pipe in and say that I think it's sad when people chant the negative stuff. I wouldn't even chant "Tampa Bay sucks!" I don't think they suck. I don't think any team or player in the NHL sucks. They are all competitors in a difficult league. I saw a post here that said "somebody should injure Tyler Johnson". I mean, really? When he scored the two goals and carried his team, I felt happy for him. Of course if the Wings lose, it would be major heart-ache, but that's not going to make me "hate" other players or teams. I just cheer, cheer, cheer for the Wings, and try to feel good for other teams and players when they have success. I would like to see Joe Louis Arena focus on positively impacting their team and let go of the silly "Bulls***", etc. chants. It's not going to happen, though, "the mass" just doesn't operate that way.
This is hockey not holiday on ice. I'm also happy for some players from other teams but if one attends a game and is into the crowd-stuff I for sure expect negative chants towards the opponent. The job of a crowd is to make cheer for the home-team and make it unpleasant for the opponent to play in a building. That Kate Perry sign from a Jets fan was just pure gold
Howie is in a sticky situation only because Petr is proving to be the real deal. He is the only one this entire season I believe to shutout the Lightning....twice! When you have a 5 million dollar goalie sitting because of some kid, it grants discussion on a message board, even after a solid W from our boys, and Peteee especially. Boyle could have changed the tempo on that breakaway, but this time Petr had his number. Great win, great effort, and lets keep it rolling! Tampa is going to come guns blazing, but we just may have ourselves a forcefield in goal.
Am I the only one who's shocked that the big lug Boyle is probably faster than nearly half the Wings roster?
with all the negativity towards our boys (rightfully so) most of us expected this kind of game without the W, and we got that W so hopefully, and I mean HOPEFULLY, we only go up from here. The guys now are seeing that we got goaltending, so loosen the hell up and use them legs.
The way I look at it is what if it were the other way around? That would have been infinitely worse. They stole a win in a game they were dominated. I have no doubt they will look much better in game 2. Babs is too good a coach to not make the right adjustments for the next game. The effort was definitely there, they just need to play smarter.
