Rice 42 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 Can someone please explain to me why we signed Dale Davis? When we first signed him I thought he was expected to assist this Pistons team through a variety of ways. Firstly, he was expected to provide some excellent defense. We all know his strength is defending, so why aren’t we exploiting this? Secondly, he was trusted upon to give the starters some extremely valuable rest. But considering he’s played just over 50 minutes for the entire season, I’m not exactly sure he’s given the starters too much relief. It was only last season for the Pacers when he was their centre, and he was averaging 7points and 9 rebounds per game in about 29 minutes. Now it’s not as though he aged 10 years during the off season, he’s still able to contribute when given the time. He wasn’t signed to provide offence, but valuable defense and rest. However due to the treatment he’s received, he’s been a poor man’s Elden Campbell. Surely we should start seeing a little more of this useful veteran? He's just another body to put on Shaq. Thats it. Similar to Elden Campbell.

mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted February 19, 2006 i still don't think we'll pick up a quality pg, i just don't think we have the chips to deal for a quality pg...i mean, we do...but we're not parting with any of the good chips. we might get a scrub pg...or we'll stick with hunter and acker. It could be Acker is really stepping it up in practice, and Flip/Joe feel fine playing him now. I'm fine with Acker/Hunter as long as Acker doesn't turn the ball over and Hunter doesn't try to do alot on offense.

The 'stons were actually playing b-ball out there (like they did back in the 80s) while the rest of the club was hot-doggin' it as usual. P.S. Pierce would look awfully good in Pistons blue. dallas27 7 Report post Posted February 21, 2006 Yep, Tayshaun + Cato + draft pick might work... All the men have to do for the olympics is throw Chauncey, Rip, Lebron, Sheed and Ben out there and it's an automatic gold medal. Have Flip coaching as well. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 Looks like the notion that Acker is gaining favor has some weight to it. In a game that was close enough that Chauncey and Ben saw 42 minutes of action, Acker got in too. Only a minute according to the box score, but he took two shots (I wonder if that's why he only played a minute). I didn't see the game though. For those who saw it....was it mop-up action for Acker, or somewhere in the middle to give Hunter and Chauncey a blow?
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 After everyone raved about Delfino’s performance on Carter, he played 8 minutes tonight, while Evans played 15. Billups and Ben Wallace played about 42 minutes each, even though a win was guaranteed during the entire 4th quarter. We were up 15 with 5 minutes to play, and a time out is called. However, the starters continue to play. Another time out with 3 minutes left, up 12, and still no sign of the bench. Ridiculous. Acker played the final minute of the game, so he didn't have a chance. dallas27 7 Report post Posted February 22, 2006 God you guys never stop bitching about the Pistons being up and the bench doesn't come in. When you will realize they are the best conditioned team, they played more minutes last year than this year, and they should have won it last year? Here's an idea. WATCH THE GAME (Although for Aussie it's hard) Chauncey and Ben weren't even winded yesterday and Ben was all over the place. Don't give me this bs about the bench needs to play and wah wah wah. They will have about 4 people coming off the bench come play-off time which is more than enough. If the Pistons have home court last year they win, hell if they don't play like jackasses the last game they win. And they are 10x better this year. Acker got mop-up minutes and Lindsey got 4-5 minutes in the first half. Acker looks like he is going to fit very well in this system. I was quite impressed when he took it to the lane. I guess he can shoot the ball real well also, coming from Mr. Dumars.

johnogrodnickfanclub 0 Report post Posted February 23, 2006 i'm pretty fukin suck of hearing people ***** about mintues too! god damn, the starters are playing LESS than last year! for ***'s sake...they can handle the minutes...the minutes aren't a problem. we should have won the title last year...and our guys played MORE minutes last year. so quit whining about our starting five playing too many minutes...it's a NON-ISSUE! dallas27 7 Report post Posted February 24, 2006 (edited) Yesterdays box score may only indicate a 5 point win but it was not close at all. 20+ point lead when the bench came in and they were up 10+ points a couple times throughout the game. Ohhhhhhh, if you didn't see that fourth quarter I wish you would have. It is just flat out DISGUSTING how good these guys are. Ben had 4-5 blocks in the fourth, Sheed had a couple, Ben had some steals, Sheed was hitting 27 foot 3's and a 29 footer but he was also posting up (NOBODY can stop Sheed when he is on), the whole team was clicking. They went on something of a 17-0 run in the fourth but it's not like the Pacers weren't shooting well. Detroit's defense was sick, every shot they took it seemed like Ben or Sheed or Tayshaun were just swating them all away. I don't see a playoff series going more than six games with these guys, they literaly DECIDE whether you are in a game or not and come playoff time they are gonna start flat out embarassing teams. They say they feel as if they should be going for a 3-peat this year, and by all means they should, becuase there isn't anything stopping them this year. Just like next year they would be going for a 4-peat and the year after a 5-peat...Oh well, I guess they just have to get the 3-peat the next three years. Sheed really is the catalyst of this team, if he is on and involved in the offense, you can throw anyone out there but it wouldn't matter. Not to mention he is the best 4 defender in the league. *edit* Oh, and they really didn't play that well....which is scary "I thought we might have played 10 to 13 minutes of championship basketball tonight," Pistons coach Flip Saunders said. "We won the game, but there are things we need to work on." No Flip, you played 10 to 13 minutes of nobody in this world has a chance at beating you... Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 25, 2006 Well the end of a very interesting game. The Pistons beat the Bulls 95-87. Hamilton got ejected; Sheed who shot 1-13 got a technical, his 14th, and Ben Wallace also got one. Tempers were running wild. The main story to come from the game was our bench. McDyess shot 8-10 for 16 points, Evans 5-8 for 15, and Delfino 2-2 for 5. Great production from our bench who really gave us a boost tonight.

dallas27 7 Report post Posted February 25, 2006 In case you forgot how good the Pistons are, find a tape of the fourth quarter of Thursday night's game agaisnt the Pacers. Detroit was an absolute machine. Specifically, Rasheed Wallace was on fire. To say he was in a zone would be putting it lightly. 'Sheed was hitting deep 3s, and ended up with 28 points. Combined with some of the best shutdown D we've seen all year, we're now convinced that nobody can beat Detroit in a seven-game series. -Foxsports Dime

redwings1914 18 Report post Posted February 25, 2006 He said how he "came here to play basketball, if he wanted to watch he could have stayed home." and that something along the extend of the championship meant nothing to him, and that he would have rather have PT than win. betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted February 26, 2006 Ho hum, another blowout by the Pistons where the game was never as close as the final score indicated. Ben was a monster as usual - 11 points, 19 boards, 5 swats and 4 steals. Tayshaun with a big breakaway block, Reggie Miller style. Dale Davis had a lot of minutes and looked fantastic on defense, he tacked on 2 or 3 blocks as well. Defensive effort, with all the blocks, deflections, and steals was as good as it's been all season. And I always love watching someone score the first points of their career - Acker got his first bucket this afternoon
dallas27 7 Report post Posted February 26, 2006 Nobody is bitching about the bench play waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. A 70% Hunter is 100x better than Arroyo. Talk about getting Delk as well, if we get him it's all over, nobody stands a chance in hell. Yea, the Pistons are un-stoppable. Somehow they a new way to impress me game in and game out. Scary thing is they are gonna be like this for years to come.

I've heard rumors about Tony Delk, Travis Best, Howard Eisley, Anthony Goldwire, and Fred Hoiberg. Should happen pretty soon because Amir Johnson will be reporting to the NBDL on Monday. You know...I'll take any one of them. All are decent backups and veterans. Edited February 27, 2006 by johnogrodnickfanclub
