gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted January 16, 2006 Just for the record and then I'm done with this BS call. Worst call in sports I've ever witnessed, bar none. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs05/n...tory?id=2294309 At least they have the stones to admit they got it wrong. It wouldnt have helped had the Colts won the game though.
RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Dungy: "They deserved to win the game," ummmm... no they didn't !! I think he meant the Steelers deserved to win - and they did. Hey I feel really bad for the guy - you just don't recover from your son's death. I don't think Indy's been together since that incident - a very unfortunate circumstance for them. I'm not a Colts fan but as a football fan I would like to see the Peyton Manning play in the Superbowl. I think Pittsburg might just go ahead and beat Denver. The Broncos are sooooo excited to be playing the Steelers instead of the Colts - they should be very careful of what they wish for..... Anyway you put it none of the potential SB matchups seem all that exciting for me - I'll still watch - but mostly for the Rolling Stones!!!
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted January 17, 2006 Dungy: "They deserved to win the game," ummmm... no they didn't !! The Colts sure as hell didnt deserve to win the game. They got mauled by a better team. The Colts didnt deserve to lose by 3. It should have been a much wider spread. Thank the refs for making it close. I hate to agree with you, but its the truth. The Steelers outplayed the colts from the opening kickoff. Steelers should have won the game by 2 touchdowns. Not sure however if that call was the WORST call in pro sports history. The "no goal" cup winning goal by Brett Hull over the Buffalo Sabres or the Miami "pass interference" call in overtime over Ohio State....those were all worst calls. The call would have been much much worse had the Steelers lost that game....er, the refs won the game for the Colts (sorry gowingsgo). I don't see how Denver can stop the Steelers...or any team for that matter. The Steelers have the playoff experience to win it all. They are on a huge roll, winning 6 straight I believe, and playing better than any team right now. The Lions are going to have to wait a long time before they can announce Russ Grimm as their new head coach. Steelers win Super Bowl XL! Oh by the way, now that I have offically put my stamp on what team will win the Super Bowl.....you can now take all of your money and bet it against my pick. My picks are NEVER right. (sorry gowingsgo) I don't know...the Steelers are going to have to play a great game, and overcome stats. I know stats aren't everything, but the Broncs are undefeated when at home in the playoffs(I think that's what it is) and the Broncos also have the Steelers number. So, we'll have to see how it all plays out. It's going to be a tough game, but I'll be rooting for the Broncs. As for Seattle/Carolina -- that should be interesting. Seattle is undefeated at home, but Carolina has playoff experience. They won two games in a row a couple years back after beating the Eagles in the playoffs and they had played one other team in their stadium and won too. Should be good..hopefully Seattle comes out and plays hard!

(sorry gowingsgo) We're 1-4 in AFCCG over the past 12 years. We need to get to XL first and then win THAT game before anyone gets crowned a champion. The Steelers are easily a 13 win team this year with a throw away game v the Jags (Maddox) and v the Ravens (Maddox). You could also make the argument that we beat the Bungles if Big Ben is healthy for that game but we won the rubber match. The Bungles can have their AFC North title. Each of those 4 losses has been the result of turnovers. 2 v the Patriots. The loss v the Broncos in 97 stings because we had 3 INTs in the 4th quarter, all in the red zone with the chance to win that game. The loss to San Diego in 94 hurts, but we probably would have been killed by San Fran in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl loss hurts of course, because we outplayed Dallas and had to errant throws land in the lap of Brown that led to key Dallas points. Thats why the Bettis fumble yesterday was so painful to watch. It conjured up some bad memories. We're going up against a QB known as a gambler. One who likes to try and take the game into his own hands, and he has been known to make big mistakes. We're going to rattle Jake the Fake. I guarantee you he gets whacked a few times. We'll need another great gameplan from Whisenhunt, LeBeau and Cowher and we'll need flawless execution to beat the Broncos at home. I'd rather have this game on the road than at home. Again, we're 1-4 in home AFCCG. The Steelers went 7-1 on the road last year. We were 6-2 on the road this year. Our road record is better than our home record. The one loss last year was the game Maddox was injured v the Ravens and started the Ben Roethlisberger era. The two losses this year were v the Colts and the Ravens again, with Maddox starting at Baltimore. And there will be an invasion of Steeler fans at Invesco Field. I was looking at tickets on ebay today but I would have a hard time convincing my wife to let me go at those prices. I like our chances. This team is on a mission. We've been so close before. Its time we close one of these damn things out and play for the title.

gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted January 18, 2006 Your team is only as strong as your backup QB. Our backup QB is Charlie Batch right now. He started and won at Green Bay for us. I believe he broke his thumb in the Cleveland game he also started and won for us. We lose that game and we miss the playoffs. I have confidence in Charlie but if we have to bring in Maddox as our emergency QB we're f***ed. Maddox hasn't been the same since he got whacked v the Titans a few years ago. We lost the game at the Ravens with Maddox as our starter and Antwan Randle El as our 2nd string QB.

Isn't it ironic how the Steelers get a guy like Roethlisberger in the first round and the Lions wind up with a guy like Harrington with the #1 pick? OK no more talk of the Lions in a playoff thread. I think if the Steelers play anywhere close to how they did last Sunday they will win the game this weekend. The Broncos didn't do anything impressive last weekend - the Patriots beat themselves with 5 turnovers. The Broncos weren't moving the ball all that well vs the Pats D - scoring only 3 pts on offense (other 24 from turnovers) - the Steelers D I think is better. Anyhow go Pittsburg! Listening to the Broncos fans is *almost* as bad as listening to the Avs fans.
gowingsgo 3 Report post Posted January 19, 2006 I HATE Broncos and Avs fans. There will be a BUS-load of Steeler fans in Denver. I looked into tickets but I have too much going on to get my butt to Denver this weekend, not to mention the $500 plus average ticket price. HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO
Guest WestCoastWingsFan Report post Posted January 20, 2006 GO SEATTLE! Because I don't know who to root for and Osgood is rooting for them. Ahaha. I'd say the Patriots but they are out..so that doesn't help. Yea, you're a season too late to be jumping on the Patswagon, Reem.

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 This is a hard year to pick the super bowl teams. Even down to 4 teams, I can see all 4 of these teams in the big game. I have to go with experience this year and go with both the underdogs. Carolina vs Pittsburgh in XL.

ripismoney 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 Mike's picks for this evening's festivities... Pittsburgh by 4. Seattle by 10. I second the motion... The Seahawks could take a tumble, but I think it would be in the Super Bowl. When was the last time there was a close Super Bowl, anyways? Steelers will win. Halftime Score was Steelers up by 21. They'd really have to collapse to lose it now.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 When was the last time there was a close Super Bowl, anyways? last year. New England won 24-21. In fact, 3 of the last 4 super bowls have been decided by 3 pts. All won by New England strangely enough.

No f###ing way an expansion team goes to the Super Bowl twice while the Lions have never gone. Especially when said Super Bowl is played in Detroit. I'm pulling for the Seahawks all the way. No, I'm not bitter. Yes I am.

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted January 22, 2006 Just had to add this: Carrie Underwood's rendition of the anthem was brilliant, thanks to a lack of adding extra notes where they don't belong: "home of the braaaAAAAaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAve." Good for her.
